paint can tip

I frequently have part of a spray can left over and save the can to paint or prime the next project. There are two types of nozzles. One nozzle has a piece that protrudes into the can and is part of the nozzle, the other has the protrusion sticking out of the can and the nozzle fits over it. Buy a couple cans of brake cleaner, one with each setup and when you are finished painting put the nozzle on the brake spray can and hit it to clean the nozzle. Since I started doing this I have never had a clog. Ellis

I've soaked tips in laquer thinner and blew them out with air but it doesn't always work. Sometimes the valve down in the can will plug. Maybe a little shot of brake cleaner down the tube would help too.

The type font on this website (and my vision) makes it look like
you have never had a DOG since you started doing this.

I often use an air nozzle and blow into the can as sometimes it is plug in there. Wd40 runs out of spray so it gets air pressure often. Seems to work pretty good

Me, probably like most guys, have some spray cans with clogged spray tips. Come to find out that Amazon sells replacement tips for both the male and female kinds of tips. They appear to be marketing to vandals who spray other peoples property and who go thru a lot of rattle cans. Very pricey tips so I will continue to save tips that work off empty cans.

(quoted from post at 09:43:24 12/21/21) I usually hold the can upside down and press nozzle for a second or 2. seems to clear tip

Hayfarmer, I am finding that more and more paint is coming in all position cans. It keeps spraying when upside down. I have a little glass bottle with acetone in it that I drop the nozzles into, and fish one out when I need to spay from a partial can again.

good idea i used to turn them upside down but this won't waste the gas

I just take the straw on a can of brake cleaner and spray into the nozzle and it's ready for the next time I use it. I use a hose clamp to hold the cans on a sawzall blade and run it at slow speed for a minute of so and the paint is mixed. I sometimes have to take the nozzle off of the paint can and spray thru it and finish with air to get the clog out.

(quoted from post at 11:07:57 12/21/21) I have just used the red straw and blew threw the paint tip. I use carb cleaner.

I do both of the above. Works 95% of the time.

I realized what you said years ago and adopted the spray brake cleaner shot after use...spray brake cleaner as I keep it handy as
a general purpose degreaser, its non-surface attacking, and it's cheap. Like others, never have a stuck nozzle or bad spray
pattern when using a used can of paint.

I don't remove the cap, just turn the nozzle towards the BC and give her a quick shot as soon as I quit the painting project.
