Farmall 706 d282 stopped moving won't go into gear.

Hello hope someone can help with this issue. I was trying driving the 706 to put her in the barn when it just stopped moving forward. I noticed right away the gear shifter was able to move pretty easy through the gears. I also checked the linkage and all is connected. The tractor won't move forward or backwards. I changed the hydraulic oil and filter yesterday and I found a small looks like a roller shiny metal piece laying on top of filter. Any ideas and help is greatly appreciated.

The TA will drive the tractor in low range without hydraulic pressure from MCV system. This indicates that it is unlikely a MCV
pressure issue. Does it still steer? A shredded clutch disk, or broken clutch torsion springs in the hub or stripped clutch
splines is another option. Was it moving at the time as implied in your post, or starting to move but didn't? Jim

I was driving it rolling right along and had steering. The high and low and reverse does not work. I changed the fluids yesterday and was driving to put it up in the barn today when it happened.

Like Jim said , could be the clutch disc . BUT it could be in the rear end , not to common on a 706 but is sorta common on the higher Hp tractors . The quick check is to put it into any gear and let the clutch out then one at a time step on each brake . If the tractor lunges forward then it is the rear end carrier has went to LUNCH . .

Look down on the right side behind the battery for a pin through the vertical shaft some times they will break or work out. It will still move the linkage but not push the rest of it to go into gear. I put double roll pins in there about 1-1/4-1-1/2 inches then put a wire through the hole to hold them from working out. IF that is good then look up from the bottom and see if your throw out bearing is good. I had one that just went to pieces with the balls laying in the bottom. A split was in order.

I hate it when stuff like that happens. I was mowing a couple days ago. My mower just stopped turning. Right away I am thinking of all the things that could go wrong. Then my brain started
working. I posted here about the same problem a year or so ago Someone mentioned a lever that disengages the pto shaft. That was the same problem this
time. My boot kicked the lever. All I needed to do is push back on. I was cutting weeds again. You can be happy for one thing. It happened right in
front of your barn, and you have all winter to find the problem. Stan

So the range lever seems to move with no resistance?

Roll pin on the range selector has sheared. It's "all connected" right up to the point where the shaft goes through the range cover.

Bet if you pull up the platform and take a closer look, the range selector shaft has either dropped out of the bellcrank and into the range transmision, or the bellcrank is turning on the shaft.

Pretty common issue especially if you have the habit of jamming harder on the shifter when it doesn't want to go in gear instead of trying to finesse things, and/or make adjustments/repairs...
