Hydraulic Cylinder Wire Retainer Removal

I have a New Holland 52LA front end loader. The bucket cylinder has a severe seal leak. The seal kit is almost as expensive as a similar cylinder, that requires modifications. I figured I would take it apart as the manual reads it 'so simple pull wire out and than pull 1 1/2 rod and internal parts out together. I am stuck on getting internal wire out. I can grip with nettle nose pliers but will not budge. I put a pipe wrench on end cap and tried turning direction wire would come out. Nothing will move. I will post some picture. Thanks in advance for any help. If you look at the closeup pick, I drew a arrow in the direction, I tried to turn.

You're not going to pull the wire as it's hooked into the cap. You need to get enough leverage to turn the end cap. Use a small screw driver, pick or something to get under the end of the wire, so it feeds out as you turn the end.

You're probably not going to pull the wire out with pliers. The beginning end of it should have a short 90 degree hook bent in it to catch a mating hole in the end cap. Turn the cap as you were doing till you see the end of the wire. Once find the end, stop and pull up the loose end of wire in the barrel window with a small screwdriver. At this point, turn the cap to feed it up the ramp in the window. Should come out then.

Try tapping around the barrel with a hammer. Then get a bigger pipe wrench on it and turn the cap. It should wind out of there. Once apart you should be able to see which seal is blown. Go to hydraulic shop and order just that seal instead of the whole kit. I just did one on my 2800 plow. Kit from JD. was $67 I went to hyd. shop and ordered only the one I needed. $19.37 Put it back together just today. Ran it in and out a dozen times. No leaks.

I do not know if ..tap.. with a hammer is the word I would use. I would say pound, like about the swing you would use to drive a 16p nail through a 2 x 4. Also if you are not in the know rustreds term of ..blue wrench.. means heat with a torch. Does your tractor set outside much? If so I would recommend sealing over that hole with RTV so in the future it is less likely to get water in there and accelerate the rust worms.
