I guess I have no friends - cutting party

I am pretty disappointed at the turnout for my party. Not even Jon the director showed up!

At least I have good family. Wife, 15 year old daughter, and 12yo son helped me out. I did all the cutting, most of the splitting -all by hand, and all of the moving of crates. I would guess we did 3 cord Sunday afternoon from 2 til it was dark at 5ish.

I have no idea how many cords I split by hand (splitting maul, wedges) before I got my splitter. About 30 years worth of heat in
our home. Of course everything did not need split. But a good cold 5-10*F evenings were the best, wood would almost explode when
it was cold. The splitting kept me so warm if I took off my stocking cap the steam would rise from my sweaty bald head. I do most
of my splitting in the early spring and fall to give the wood time to season. Don't like that cold. Looks like you have some
really good firewood. My family always helped with the wood. Stay warm. gobble

Hey crazy horse,

I bought them from a scrap yard several years ago. They hold a 1/4 cord struck or a 1/3 cord piled. Work great for firewood. I burn 2-3 a week when it is cold, and less when it is warm. Once they are empty, fold them down, stack them up, and wait til I bring another wagon of logs up. This was one load. I have three more piled up behind the garage.

Remember the grade school story, The Little Red Hen? No one helped till, plant, hoe, water harvest and bake.
When it was time to eat the produce then everyone wanted some. Enjoy the heat. Merry Christmas.

Cycle time is what? 11 seconds? I have a free standing 42K # kinetic energy splitter with a 3 second cycle time. It works much faster than I
do. I currently have the free standing propane heater in the house for back up heat when the electric goes out.
Too far away from a gas line service.

Looks good. Of course, most of us
remember the Tom Sawyer story about
whitewashing the fence.
We have most of next year supply in the
pole shed. Need to continue splitting.
After a month of burning wood should
have room to stack.

Warm weather in Southern WI so not much
wood burned this season.

I used to go to a lot of those parties, but I stopped getting invited. Something about not getting enough done for the amount of beer that I drank????

I have been burning wood since the early 80's. Wood is my only source of heat, except for bathroom wall heaters. I split with a wedge, and hammer for a year or so. Then I built my splitter. I couldn't get along without it. Stan

Cant help thinking Loren would have weighed in on all this Lumberjack talk. Your cages of lumber remind
me of his woodcutting posts. Merry Christmas to all the wood cutters.

Great news everybody! I have three more loads up the hill. We can party again this coming Saturday! Should be 8-9 cord.

I know how you feel going on solo here, the cut off ends go in the basket 24 inch pieces get stacked, this is
mostly oak so I want it to season until next December.

Jay, I like that high-tech control handle extension!

I know its unsafe, but I actually enjoy cutting wood by myself. Its about the only time I get away from the wife, the house, her TV, the computer and have silence - at least when I shut down the saw and tractor. Would be nice lots of times to have another set of hands, but I always worry when my nephew or niece help, that they are gonna get hurt somehow. Same with my 78 year old neighbor who owns the land I work on.

At least your wife and kids helped you out. If I want firewood to burn it's me myself and I.

I'd be out there right now but it's deer season and the crazies will shoot at anything that moves.

I don't like burning wood, but considering it costs $4 every time the furnace runs and oil is the only option around here, I guess I'm burning wood.

My Uncle James used to tell me....Boy, you get lots of warmings from a fireplace: warm when you go cut down the tree, warm when you split the wood, warm when you carry it in the house, warm in front of the fireplace, warm when you clean up the ashes. So true.
