Governor problem

I also have this in the MF site.

I have a '79 MF T0-35 and having a governor problem. I replaced the governor and it still won't work. Brought a guy in to check me out. The part of new governor that slides into the cam shaft has shoulders on it but does not lock into anything. You can take your hand and spin it round & round. He says that not right. So my question is the part inside the cam worn and cam shift needs replaced?

Also where can I get a sediment bowl that don't leak, bought several and they all leak where the glass part goes into the metal part.

Thanks

That part is supposed to turn freely in the cam, there may be a small tab on the front that contacts the the governor arm to keep it from turning with engine running.

That part, the umbrella shaped piece, must slide freely in the end of the cam.

The tab needs to be in the 6 o'clock position when the cover is installed. Once the cover is on, the tab will rotate to where it needs to go and stop spinning there.

Before putting the cover on, back the bumper spring adjusting screw out so it is not touching the spring lever. That is a pretty much useless adjustment, you want all the travel you can get out of the governor.

Be sure to get the shim behind the plate (behind the ball cage and cam gear nut) right. Some use a shim, some don't. The plate needs to sit flat against the front of the cam gear when the nut is tightened.

You will need to adjust the throttle linkage when all is back together. Search 'Z134 governor assembly instructions', there is a pdf I can't get to link. But it has all the components and adjustment procedures.

The most common problem is getting the link to the throttle plate too short. The governor travel is limited, it has to be able to push the throttle against the idle stop screw.

As for the sediment bowl, good luck, Haven't found one yet that doesn't leak. Might just eliminate it and add a ball valve. If you add an inline filter, it needs to be a screen type, not pleated paper.

Thanks. that's what my book said, but I had a shade tree mech. come by and said the shaft should fit in a slot inside the cam shaft. For sure nothing in my book said that
