Tractor hauler vehicle

The dealer is going to be the only one with the tool to diagnose. So, get your checkbook, and leave it at the dealer. You are not going to like the bill.

Just need to take to a good independent shop with a decent scanner and get the codes and go from there. More than likely just one problem cause all three messages since those three system are all related.

I had a squirrel chew some wiring 3 different times that had fuel system light, 3-4 yrs ago and it sure wasn't cheap but the
last 2 times I turned in to comp insurance. It is now showing an ABS warning light also. I for sure don't want to fail on the
road.

Sounds like a wheel/drive line sensor gone bad. Front wheel brngs on my Silverado 1500 would start going bad, and the built in sensor would start throwing traction control/anti lock brake signals. It was explained to me that the metal flakes from the brng going bad would trip/trick the sensor.

Wife's Jeep Patriot really goes nuts when a wheel sensor quits. It starts applying brakes/etc.

I have GMC 2500HD that started flashing on info center (Service these 3 things, Trailer brake system, Traction control and Stabiltrak system. Anyone got any ideas?

I would try one of these before going to the stealership.

OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner

Did you have a trailer connected? If so, did it clear after unhooking it?

If it did, could be a problem with the trailer wiring.

If no trailer, inspect the trailer plug, especially the back side where the wires connect. Could be corroding and shorting the wires.

Most any malfunction will turn the Traction control and Stabiltrak system light on.

It disarms those systems (turns lights on) they need all the other systems to operate as designed. Its a good bet neither has anything to do with them being on.

Steve, the last time the trailer was behind truck was 5-6 weeks ago and all was good after then. I ran to town yesterday evening to pick up a pizza and it just started throwing the warnings when I started it and left the pizza place.

Your truck is newer than mine (Stabilitrak??), but every time I've had a wiring issue on the truck that affected the trailer, it had to do with the wiring at rear of truck.

On two trucks (a Dodge Ram and a Chevy Silverado), both had the same kind of trailer plugin harness going to the tail lights. In both instances, the connectors on the harnesses were facing the same direction. One truck had enough clearance to prevent problem, but the other (I think the Dodge) had one connector jammed against the wheel well. Movement had worn through the wire right at the connector.

On the Chevy, I'm guessing some object popped up and cut into the insulation and part way through the wire - enough to throw a code.

It's a simple place to check, but seems to be a problem spot.

This truck has dynamic engine braking and I suppose has all kind of things tied into the problem! When the squirrel ate the
wiring the Check engine came on but nothing else. I got under it today and looked the wiring over saw nothing so guess a trip
to dealer next! I sure like the trailer brake controller built into truck, you can't even tell when the trailer brakes come
into play.
If you lose trailer brake because of lost connection it will tell you.

My 2010 gave me the service trailer brake system warning a few weeks back. Mine was a little module inside the frame by the left rear wheel. About $30 on Amazon.

If you have an ABS light your traction control and stability system won't work. They're all tied together. They use the inputs from the ABS wheel speed sensors.

I agree. A good independent shop with a real mechanic and not just a parts replacer "auto tech" is something to cherish. Find one and you'll save money!

My 2016 did gave me a 'service trailer brake' message with 600 miles on it running down the freeway with no trailer hooked up....never came back on. I did have an occasion where it happened with the trailer hooked up, but I stopped and wiggled the connection and it went away. My truck has the 7 pin mounted upside down, and I think that is what causes the problem, with the trailer cord hanging down, the weight of it can cause the brake connection -which is now on top - to loose contact. Stupidest thing GM could have done.

Thanks, to everyone who replied. I talked to independent shop that the body shop had used a lot and I have known the owner for over 40 years. Supposed to take in Wednesday and will post back how things go after that. Thanks again

Eldon I use a hitch lock pin with the wire bale that holds it in place. I run my cord through the bale so that it comes down to the socket from above.

Got it fixed but took 2 days as no GM ABS sensor in town. Repaired wiring where squirrel chewed while setting on top of spare tire 1st day and changed sensor next day. All good now. Thanks Jim
