a few weeks back there were some posts about hauling a boat south with a car with a tranny shudder. there was some kind of snake oil addative that was only a few onces that you used if memory serve right.
what was that addative and di it help?

We had a 87 Ford Thunderbird turbo coupe, when it developed a transmission shudder, a shop put some snake oil in it. When it didn't go away my wife and I changed the torque convertor, the old one wasn't locking up when it was supposed to. That fixed it, it was a wonderful car.

The stuff I used was Lubegard Instant Shudder Fixx, you can buy it at AutoZone for ten bucks.

I believed it helped, but I've only towed the boat a few miles since then, so the car hasn't had a real workout. I flew back from Florida a week after using the stuff, and it supposedly takes about 200 miles for the snake oil to do its magic. My wife drove the car for a couple of weeks after I left, then she flew back as well. She said she thinks there's still a shudder, but I think it has helped. I'll know for sure when we go back to Florida in January and I'm able to drive the car some more.

I wouldn't hesitate to use it on another vehicle. It certainly hasn't hurt anything, and the alternative is taking the car into a transmission shop for a new torque converter or worse. This was on a 2012 GMC Acadia, BTW.

Money Pit,

Additives are friction modifiers. How much you need to get the whole fluid back to the proper friction? You did not state how old is the fluid. A fluid change usually cures many symptoms.

Shuttering is usually a torque converter issue, going in and out of lock up. Again... many times fluid and filter chance will do the trick. Using a synthetic fluid would be my choice. Mobil makes one that will fit your needs.

Having the transmission flashed maybe also needed. if fluid change and flashing the Transmision does nto do the trick, then the torque converter might be at fault,

Guido.
