Museum quality Ford 861 @ Hemmings Auction .....

This one was apparently in the Henry Ford museum at one time .... A '58 Ford 861 Powermaster and it's on the Hemmings Auction website with a reserve. Beautiful tractor, maybe 'over restored' .... who knows? Two weeks to go on this auction site ... will be interesting to see what happens.

It's a nice one, although the description has multiple errors.

Should bring $6K+, but who knows since it's on Hemmings.

Yea the jubilee badge and the 61 hp are both baloney but I bet it brings 6k or more and well worth it especially if bought to put to work.

Gary: The worded descriptions for the Hemmings Auctions are written by a Hemmings employee who bases his description on a general 'vehicle' auction info form filled in by the seller. Obviously, you can tell by the categories mentioned (eg. Interior, etc) and very often the writer will mention 'per the owner'. So nobody is being deliberately misleading if there are mistakes. I must ask you though, what do you refer to when you make your comment about the description being 'way off'? Below is some info from the Tractor Data website which you might take a look at ..... I suspect they could be wrong as well.

My gosh.

Where does one start.

We all know that tractordata is not to be trusted.

Dean ...... I should've mentioned that the person who is supposedly the 'seller' (and filling in the info form) in these auctions could be a long time owner, someone who just acquired it and is flipping, or even a dealer who might be selling it on consignment or from his own inventory. Then add to that the fact that the Hemmings writer is also depending on what he/she sees in the photos. I'm sure they are as accurate as possible considering how it's done.

I didn't know that about Tractor Data not being being trusted. It almost sounds like another conspiracy which so many of us seem to think is everywhere these days.

You asked where does one start about the auction's misleading or inaccurate information. I have no idea, perhaps you can enlighten us? Sounds to me like a long, long list so it should be pretty easy to give a few examples at least or even more.

A golden jubilee badge is wrong, it is not a 50th anniversary model, the engine is not a red tiger (naa engine). 861 would have a 2 stage clutch to give it a live pto.

OK, you asked where to start.

Let's start with the description stating non-live PTO.

Earlier posters have noted other inaccuracies.

Still, a very nice tractor, though not properly restored.

Would bring around $6000 in my area but only if the right folks viewed the ad.

Regarding tractordata: Such data is provided by posters, regardless of knowledge and experiance, and is continually variable. I learned long ago not to rely upon tractordata. That said, tractordata is more reliable for more modern machines than it is for older machines.

Tractordata site may have some inaccurate data here and there; but they usually provide links to the Nebraska Test reports, which are accurate.

It is nice even if the owner doesn't know what he's talking about.

What I don't understand is restored. I know the term varies depending on who you are talking to but on a high end site? Pretty meticulous description but the brakes, clutch, rear end, hydraulic pump
and even the cooling system aren't mentioned. Those should have been addressed on a high end restoration.

Let us know how the auction turns out.

So, a lot like this place then.

(quoted from post at 17:28:54 12/03/21) Sixth photo from top , is the draw bar attached the same as it was when new?
rawbar setup wrong in that picture.

Guys have posted here about how taking a machine to shows can be tedious because of the experts that come along and pick your treasure apart instead of appreciating the work that went into it. People have told of having a sheet of paper with a list of their known inaccuracies or short comings, and when the offender is done showing how much he knows, pulling out the list and scan it and tell him "Well that's OK but you have X number yet to go", LOL.
