Bush Hog Deck Ring UPDATE

I rolled the 3 X bar stock around a section of natural gas line pipe. I bolted it to the pipe and had the wife use the forks on the tractor to roll the pipe and bend the bar stock into a circle. It would have been a tough job to do it by hand. I then welded it to the bottom of the cutter.

I bush hogged 5 acers Tuesday with the new deck ring attached and it was GREAT. I accidentally hit a few rocks and large chunks of downed tree limbs on accident, and all went very well. The deck ring took the brunt of the deflection force and my welds held up great and it never dented the cutter at all. The cutter distributed the cuttings a little more evenly, but it was not too bad to windrow the cuttings to start with.

The deck ring mod has now made this cutter a keeper. If I ever have to get another bush hog it will definitely come with a deck ring or one will be installed before its first use.

I put a complete new skirt on our Bush hog, at least that's what I call the 1/8 by 6 piece that was around the back. but I used 1/4 x 6, and
it's holding up much better. I bolted the center of the new steel to the back of the cutter, and then pulled it around with 2 come-a-longs,
c-clamped it and welded and bolted it. It looked like new after I painted it. Where did you put the pipe, around the bottom of what I call
the skirt? That's a good idea.

Yes we are, mine doesn't have a deck ring, but it should! And the stump jumper isn't round like it should be, it's oval. It got all bent up
a few years ago, and I put these gusset in it, been fine since. A stump jumper should be round, so there's no leading edge to strike
anything.
