When I was a kid, there were gas stations that did tune ups. They had spark plug cleaners/testers. After they cleaned plugs, they connected the plug to a coil. Under the coil was a mirror so you could see the health of the spark.

Haven't seen a cleaner/tester in years. I'm sure there may be some on ebay.

The owner of a gas station had arthritis in his fingers. Every morning he would fire up the tester and touch each finger to the coil. He said the shock helped his arthritis.

My dad had one of those at his shop.

I played with it more than it was used.

Used to electrocute grass hoppers! Then zap them again and make them jump!

After zapping grasshoppers, did you use a magnifying glass and cook them?
I think cooked grasshoppers would taste better if dipped in chocolate. lol

I have cheapie like that from HF.

When I bought Farmall C someone had the fuel mix screw all the way in.

Mistake, fuel mix screw is backwards. All the way in, rich mix, plugs turned black in a few hours.

First terramite left plug turned black in 10 hours. Took me a while to figure out that problem. Only one carb. No fuel mix screw. So I kept asking why is one cylinder right cylinder a clean plug left cylinder a dirty plug??? Passed compression and leak down test.

Final answer, left cylinder needed valves lapped in. Carbon on valve, valve wasn't sealing right under fire. Left cylinder was 700 degrees right cylinder 900 degrees exhaust temp.

Wasn't Acme the company that provided Willie Cyotie nothing that ever worked right when he was trying to get the road runner?

The one SV is showing looks like it has the ability to pressurize the chamber the plug is being test fired in. That way you would know the plug can fire under compression. One shop I worked at had a Champion one like that had 4 leg for it to stand on.

I have one like that, think I bought it from Mac tools. I stand the plug up and fill the end with carb. cleaner for a while, then hit it with brake clean and blast it. Works good.

I have a very similar one that I bought from JC Whitney about 35 years ago.

I haven't bought any sparkplugs for vintage tractors since I bought it.

If the air/fuel misfire is correct, the engine is fully warmed up and the lube oil is low ash . Plugs wear
Out before they foul out .

Im in need of an overhaul but for what I use the truck for and
it really does run good Im not going to overhaul it anytime
soon . I still need to check valve stem seals
