Took the Super m across the road to fill a ditch.Went about a tenth of a mile,took about 20 mins.On the way home....ran out of gas.Grrr.Had to walk home,get a couple of gallons and walk back.Should have looked in the tank.At least it wasn't several miles.But then I would have checked.LOL
 
When I was in High School a farmer's son drove their Farmall M back home from the IH dealer where it had undergone extensive overhaul work. He decided, while driving down School Street in 5th gear, to look in the gas tank to see if he had enough fuel to make it home. He lost control of the tractor while leaning over the steering wheel and opening the gas cap. Tractor's right rear wheel hit a light pole and broke off the rear axle and tore open the differential housing. He was not injured but the tractor went back to the dealer for more repairs.
 
That happened to me this year with the swather. 2 blocks from home, at least it died at the stop sign no in the intersection. Worst part had to go to the gas station to get gas as I didn't have any in the cans at home. Up to this point I had never ran out of fuel.

Rest assured you are not the first one or last one to do it.

A few years ago I was bailing with my 1070, halfway up a hill it did the sputter sputter die thing.

I let it roll backwards until it was on level ground again, fortunately there was still enough left in the tank when sitting level that I was able to run the hand primer and get it going again and take a flatter route back to the yard.

I'm going to fix that gauge one of these days.

Last September, I left my house to cruise into town(about 3 miles), because I knew I was about out of gas, but I figured there was enough to get to the gas station(on the edge of town closest to me). As I was going up the last small hill before town, it coughed and sputtered...I weaved a little in my lane and shook enough into the fuel line to get it running again, and kept going. I got to town, and it died just as I got to the parking lot of the restaurant beside the gas station. I had to walk about 50 yards. I borrowed a gas can from the gas station and went to put some gas in it and it already had a little in it. I dumped about 4 ounces in my tank, and it started and I was able to drive it to the pumps.
 
I have an IH300u and a CIH485. I do a lot of bush hogging on side hills, and ran both tractors out of fuel on the same hill; both times the draw side was up hill. On the 300u it died instantly-no warning, not even a sputter. On the 485, it sputtered and I was able to quickly swing around and get the draw side downhill, where it was able to remain running after it cleared up. The 300u is a gas hog and just used more than I had anticipated, and I had to walk. The 485 would have been fine if I had not been on the side hill so long. I now never go out unless the tank is 1/2 full-in fact, that is where I try and refill! Mark.
