Rustled I thought this was part of your winter project list? Lol. Now your almost done. Its looking great. Well thought out. Thanks for the pic. Wingnut

Looking grand. The clevis and bolt at the splitting slider probably need a ramp to spread the split wood to each side, welded between the cylinder and the edge. (probably in your plan already. Jim

I would advice putting a gusset under from the I beam to the 2x4 it would
make it stronger ... just my 2 cents , that looks like a weak point to me ..

Yes that is the first thing I cut out this morning. Going to remove it from tractor then weld it in. And yes not finished the wedge yet either.

I would make the wedge so that it will split and make more than just 2 pieces of wood. Make a wing on it so it will make 4 pieces of wood. Probably not enough ram for that though.

To late now. But why do you make the splitter on the cylinder. I like the pusher on the cylinder so the wood is pushed out of the way. Makes it easier to load the next piece and if using a wood conveyor it pushes split wood onto it.

i have seen both ways on different splitters. this way makes more sense to me as i dont want the wood pushed off the unit out the back. i can retract cyl and have the wood sitting there for the next cut on the big blocks. and will have a side pan opposite to place the split block. then have my wagon beside the unit and there will be no bending down to pick up wood of the ground. plus i am still deciding on a 4 way split wedge yet. that 3 1/2 inch cyl. is plenty for that.
