Sons implement restoration project update

I posted awhile back that oldest son
had drug my grandaddy's King disk
out to refurbish it to use on the
few acres he tends. We went at it as
a father son project. He got all of
it cleaned up after disassembly and
I painted it for him. Finished
getting it back together today and
we just had to try it out in this
cold drizzling rain. Lol. He's
grinning so big now I don't think
his smile will fit through the
laundry room door to the house.

CRS81. Yall did a first class job! Im thinking your son wire wheeled each disc. Please advise if a 10 or 12 footer. Thanks for the post. Wingnut

We had a little talk and it's his with the understanding of it not to be sold and if I needed a mental therapy moment, I could use it to play with a minute.

I just come in from locking up the shop and checking to be sure everything is put away. He must really think something of it because he's got it buried under the shelter and left my tractor out in the rain. Anyway it's a 28 blade 10.5 ft disk. For the type land around home these lighter disks do better with notched blades on front and rear. Agri Supply did the blade polishing for us as the old ones were worn pretty good. Maybe it'll last a good time with all new blades, bearings, housings, and U bolts to hold the gangs on.

VERY nice job and a father and son project that will be remembered for many years!

What model is your tractor?

I had a 1974 464 that looked like that. Would guess a higher HP version.....don't know how IH numbered them...mine was 46 hp, maybe 564 for 55 and 664 for 65 guessing.

This one is a 574. It handled it good. I was a little concerned it might overload it a bit as we use to pull this thing with either the 674 or 684 but it did good with it.

We had a 454 gas and a 464 diesel at one time. They were both 42 hp and smart tractors for they're size. The numbering went up to 574,674,on up then it carried likewise into the 84 series once they were released. We had grandaddy's 684 that he bought new but was sold about 5 years ago. Oldest son is hinting on trying to find and buy it back. I know exactly where the 674 he had is at.
