88 years ago today

88 years ago today, my dad was born on a rainy Saturday morning. Well it is not Saturday but we do have typical fall liquid sunshine.

Dad has all his fingers, toes and teeth, he uses glasses for reading, and wears hearing aids to church because the furnace fan is too loud. And looking at photos I would say he is not much balder now then when he got married in his thirties.

A lifelong custom farmer and fabricator, he has enough stories to fill 3 books. Dad says he has seen alot of change in the world and sometimes he misses the days of lum and adner, laurel and hardy, and leaving doors unlocked when you headed for town.

Sorry for long winded, just wanted to share and brag about my dad

I agree with Dan below. You should try and get some of his stories written down. You will be very glad you did. Most Kids now don't care that much, but a lot of them will start to once a little older. By that point you won't remember yourself..lol. Great pics - Bob

Youre lucky to have your dad among us. Not many make it that old. Besides the stories, you should ask your dad any question you may have for him now. When my uncle died unexpectedly, my cousin said,There were questions I wanted to ask dad. Then he said, I guess they will have to wait.

good stuff ! nice to see he is going strong. my neighbour is 92 and is still running around the roads with his j. d. gator. at that age he was still discing with his big john deere 4 wheel drive. now the sons wont let him and call him the straw boss cause he is running around checking fields with the gator.

Happy Birthday to him!

Great post. You are very fortunate to have him around and in good health. The stories he has are priceless.

My grandpa is 83 years old and I really enjoy getting to talk farming & past times with him. I built a house on the family farm so I get to see him almost every day.

My great-grandpa owned an Allis-Chalmers dealership in the 40-50's. He was born in 1899 and I would give anything to have met him. He passed away in 1980 and I was born 8 years later. He lived a great life and there are still people around that have stories to share...

Tell your dad to have a great birthday. He's got 10 years and 3 months on me, but I also miss the same things he does especially being able to leave the house without a need to lock it. Get him a tape recorder for his birthday and start having him tell all those stories to you through the tape recorder. Good luck & happy birthday to your dad.

Tell him happy birthday. Absorb all that you can from him. There is a lifetime of wisdom in those pictures.
I'm a bit jealous. My father died at age 53. I have often wonder how he would have reacted to many things that I did in my life.

That is most certainly a Graham bradley.
Good eye and thankyou for noticing.
I know the oliver 70 is usually voted the prettiest tractor but my vote is the Graham Bradley

really? did you have to say tape recorder? my dad already has a love of tape recorders that has been going on for 40 years and counting. and because he can not find blank cassette tapes in the store anymore, i have the privilege of buying blank cassette tapes for him online so he can continue to tape his favorite radio shows such as Frontier Missions with Rev Don Kline, Thru the Bible with J Vernon McGee and the Old Fashioned Revival Hour with Pastor Charles E Fuller.
So yes, my dad has tape recorders and knows how to use them. But to my knowledge, he has never used one on himself

Dad started driving tractor alone the
spring he was 6 years old, that year he
drove both a worn out cletrac W and also
an almost new Graham bradley.
Dad said the Graham Bradley was much
easier to drive both because of creature
comforts, but also because the Graham
bradley was used to open field work where
as the cletrac W was used in the raspberry
fields, so dad had to keep long straight
rows and then make sharp turns at the end
while his dad or uncle was behind
operating the grape hoe
