1965 tractors

I have a 65 Case830ck an a 65 2510JD. What was the price difference in these tractors, the 830 is a little bigger. The 2510 is smooth quiet rear end way better power steering, brakes, hydraulics. I like the Case com but the tear end and tans are loud and always grinds the shift. The Case is an extra just to have, I use it to rake, augers, grind feed. but if I want handy I use the 2510 a lot more. I just wondered what the price difference was on them. Only tractor I ever bought new was my 72 1066 that I use all the time, $9800.

The 2510 came out in 1966. List price was $4224 for a gas and $4774 for a diesel. Option were as follows: powershift $612, dif lock $86, pto 540-1000 $244,single hyds $158, dual hyds $269, rear rockshaft $247, 3 point $180, rollomatic $84, wide front $260, 13.6x38 rear tires $65 or 15.5x38 $130, precleaner and air stack $13.25, horn $7.50, 2 side and one front weight $63, and rear weights $49.25 per pair. There also other options. In my experience you could usually buy for about 13% less than list price. Tom

The 2510 is tiny, rated 55 pto hp. A Co-worker had one and said his FARMALL M out-did it on any job. TractorData doesn't have a price. But a 1963 3010 stickered for $4700.
Case 830 Comfort King rowcrop was $6000 and 64 pto hp. Dad had next to the last bid on a really nice 930 Comfort King WFE diesel. I'm not sure sitting THAT HIGH up in the air is good for a person. Sale was right cacross the road from one of my Uncle's farms, Uncle and Cousins completely assured Dad that their Stock 4020's ran rings around the 930. Wasn't too many big Case tractors around back then, fall 1968.

In 2021 the 2510 in good condition will be worth more than the 830 by a considerable margin. The 830 is a decent tractor but the 2510 is more nimble. I ran an 830 many years ago and noted it shifted hard. Not sure if something needed to be adjusted on that tractor. Not sure if you are thinking about selling one or the other. You have the rest of the story as to 1960's prices from the other posters here.

The info I found was from Tractordata.com saying a J.I. Case 830 was $6,000 for the 1969 year, so take it with a grain of salt. You mention that the 2510 shifts without grinding. That is because of the synchronized transmission ..Syncro-range.. transmission. So as the word implies during shifting the speeds of the gears were synchronized or matched by brass clutch synchronizers to avoid gear engagement grinding. Deere really had a much better design for shifting the transmission. The gears in their transmission always stayed in mesh and the shifter moved a collar with teeth to engage the gear to the shaft. Many other brands Case and IH for example just slid the gear and the actual driving gear teeth had to engage to make the gear changes. If you ever had the transmission of one of those brands open you will always see rounded and chipped teeth in the area where the teeth clash or grind to make engagement. So you can get imagine how the teeth surfaces that carry the load get comprised or damaged over time. Meanwhile the gear teeth in the Deere run along happily mating one another with no ill effects from trying to mate with the teeth from another gear moving at a different speed. Just some added info.

so mine was about 5330 list, it was a demo tractor. If that Case was a $6000 tractor, I don't know how they sold them. Before we got the 2510 we had an 800 and 900 Case and a 560turbo, those were all on a different farm 130 miles away. We had moved to a small farm and commuted between the two.

I doubt a 4020 would run rings around a 930 case diesel. We used to pull 6 16's with a 930 and an 806 diesel. Most of the 4020's around her were only hitched to a 5 bottom boat anchor. They struggled to pull that.

Ill take that bet not to mention being cramped up on that tiny case platform all day sitting 7 feet in the air but dull no room to stretch your legs
