Added a step

Second attempt at step.
My concern is will the step get in the way loading tractor on trailer.

Tractor hasn't gone for a ride after selling a rental property 6 months ago.

I like the modification. Made from used 1 inch tubing.
The spacing between steps is close to the
same

Even ignoring contact with obstacles, that puts lots of cantilevered stress on the OEM bracket.

Dean,
I'm not that heavy.
It's better to flex if I hit something than to damage cab mounts.
I have welders, stick and mig. Nothing I can't weld back together and a 20 ton press can't straighten

I have a terrible time getting up in our son's big tractors.
And even worse is his JD 9400 combine.
I have added a step to my VAC Case and am going to add one to my 8N.

George, if you took out the bottom bolts and swung the arm up and then put bolts in the hole, but not through the step you could pull it up out of the way. When down it would just rest against the bolts. Might have to put a bolt up higher as a stop to keep it from hitting the door glass.

That's cool.
I had to make a step for neighbor to get on his old Massey.
I miss the old guy, died about 5 years ago. His nephew still
uses the tractor to feed cows.

Ok, How am I suppose open door and get out of cab if steps are up??
Been using the steps for about 6 months.
Flat yard, no hills except when I load tractor on trailer which I haven't done in 6 months.

Aside from the clearance issue, that looks like a nice and simple upgrade.

Some of the add on steps, or even oem steps use a rubber or stiff strong cable as the side parts, so they have some flex if you scrap into something with them.

That's a neat idea.
If I ever have an issue, I may try something like that.

If there's something over a foot tall, I would know it as soon as my back wheel hits it. Actually I would know about it as soon as my front wheel hits.

George,

Could you make it a folding/flip-up step, so it would be out of the way when loading the tractor on a trailer? Just flip down when needed - it could have a pin to lock it in place when up or down.

Not 100% sure if I have to do anything when loading. I'll keep an eye on it..
Only 4 bolts to remove.

If your worried about the ladder contraption breaking because of leverage of added step, I'd take the whole thing off, even the factory step.
Make something heavier duty, and mount it to the piece of iron under (what appears to be) fuel tank. Looks like that piece of iron already has holes in it for bolts.
You could do it so that whatever you make is more in line with the front wheel to insure that you don't run the step into something while driving. The one you have now appears to stick out. Possibly even outside of rear wheel.
The only way to know if it will catch on your trailer while loading, is to (without steps on the tractor), park tractor on the trailer and ramps at the point the steps would hit something, and measure from tractor down to the ramps/trailer at the point where the steps would be. If making something entirely from scratch, it would be easy to make it so steps didn't hang down past what you measured.

Looks good!
Might want some course anti skid tape on the new step.

I would not beef it up any more than to support you.
If you hit something you want to sacrifice the step.
Not what it is mounted to, thats for sure.

I am proud to say I have not got that old yet : ) I used my Bota today no cab YET I liked the factory step : ) They done good..

I bought the last GM classic low rider new in 2007.
I refuse to buy a new truck and add a 2 steps, one for getting into the cab and the other to get in the bed.

AS long as I can buy engines, transmissions and parts the 2007 will be my last truck.

Just wait, someday you will be old and fight gravity more.
Just getting off the floor when working on truck is getting harder.
I'll just hire a good mechanic to service my things.
Hope to find one that makes house calls.
