I would like to have this old truck restored and upgraded with all of today's bells and whistles.

Reminds me of the truck dad had on the dairy.

Post pics of your antique or pick one from link below.

Does anyone have one they want to sell?
pick your truck and post pic

Those Art Deco Chevy trucks were the best looking trucks ever made.
I would love to have one just like it came from the factory.

I never understood the need to upgrade an old car.We had a man in town. Found a 1933 Packard sedan. All orginal. By the time he upgraded it. He could not give it away.

This would my choice.

New enough to be a daily driver, old enough to be simple and enduring.

I would want to upgrade to an LS with fuel injection though!

Why upgrade? comforts, reliability.
Not looking for resale value.
You will put way more money in restoring any old car than it's resale value.

The one I have is my favorite now. I do like the Diamond T pickups though and others.

I like to see whatever the man who owns it has decided to do. Far as I am concerned these old vehicles are useless except as eye candy and parade vehicles.

gotta say this 1970 F100 bought new. this was the day I sold it in 1978 with 215,000 miles. 360V8, 3 on the tree. hangdown add on AC. I bought a special order 1978 F150 long bed V8, 3spd/overdrive manual. out of 7 Ford pickups I've owned that '78 was the only lemon and it was a true lemon.

I had a '51 Dodge that I did a poor man's refurbishing on 30 years ago, paid $500 for it and drove it home. The grandson is now 27 years old. Photo is pretty small small but it was a nice old truck. Dodges were and still are the low guy on the collector truck totem pole but that's OK, I liked the truck and like everyone else always says, I shoulda kept it .... ha!

All of them, my first truck a 1964 Chevrolet 1/2 ton fleet side with a 283 and a three speed on the column, it was a custom cab. My 68 GMC 3/4 ton it had a 250 Chevrolet six (which I installed to replace the V six) and a four speed, worlds toughest truck. 1991 K1500 short box 4.3 V six with a 5 speed 450,000 miles. 2001 K1500 5.3 V eight with an automatic, 363,000 miles and you can hardly hear it run. There is a special place in my heart for my 1976 four wheel drive 3/4 ton I used to pull the race rig(26 ft tag). It had a 60 over 454 coupled with 4:11 gears, it had duel tanks one an after market 32 gallon. When my youngest daughter was 11 years old we took it around Lake Superior with an 8 and 1/2 foot camper.

If you want a modern car with modern bells and whistles, you should be driving a modern car with all of the bells and whistles. If you want an old car, then it is so much better to leave it as it should be.

Most so-called upgrades are poorly done and don't fit in well. Most times, there is simply no room for them. Old chassis were simply not made to accommodate modern accessories.

So, if you want to drive an old car, then drive an old car. Otherwise just buy a car with the accessories that you want.

I would like to find an old Dodge power wagon from the 40's or 50's then use for farm use to pull equipment from one place to the other and haul seed things like that. Must be the 4x4 model with the 20inch wheels.

I didn't even have to think about that.

My all time favorite that I've owned was a 1975 GMC one ton crew cab dually with a warmed up 454 engine.

It liked to run, and with headers and glass pack mufflers pulling a trailer 60 or 70mph had to be the prettiest sound on Earth.

I have one too. Love them highboys! Mine is Wimbledon white, granny four-speed and 300 six. Great truck. Really takes me back when I drive it.

I like the idea of an old truck that drives like a new one. Can't stand the looks of any new ones plus the myriad of electronics and chips and their potential failure.
I haven't actually driven an upgraded vintage truck yet. So far I guess my 40 year old GMC fills the bill. Its simple, reliable, good looking. And its still one of the best riding and handling vehicles I've ever been in. I've owned it since 86 and it has worked hard for me.

Sorry,no pic but in HS in the '70s I had a 1951 GMC pickup with a visor and big protective bumpers, light blue with black bumpers, seemed no matter how cold the old 6 would always start.

I had one of these back in the late '70's. It was a '67. 232 six, 3 on the tree with hi-low transfer case. Sold it around '83 or so, been wanting it back or another one pretty much ever since.

Close second would be the'72 F 100 I had later. 240 six, 3 on the tree with hi-low transfer case.

Both simple, tough, dependable trucks.

(quoted from post at 07:48:03 10/21/21) Here's another IH, 1954, R152 recently completed.

Thats a nice International. We hardly ever see the 150 size. Here is was all 160s or the smaller pickups and 120-130 size. I can only recall seeing two L or R 150 Internationals.

1973 F 250 4X4 with the 428 S/CJ and a reworked C 6 . Only weak point in that truck were the ft axle spider gears . I kept three sets on hand at all times . The 428 went in five days after i got it to replace the whimppy 360and five days after i put the 428 in mine we put a 390 375 Hp in my buddys his was a four speed . That made them a tuck .

I bought a new 79 f 150 w/ 351 m and 4 speed put in 429 at 85,000 miles used it to pull hay and corn from a farm 5 miles away that I rented third was wore out wouldn't stay in gear without holding it. after 20 years rust took it. Then I bought a 1978 from South Dakota put 429 in it and drove to work and now is my snow plow truck.

Favorite? That would be my 1964 F 100 step side. It has been upgraded for safety reasons. Power disk brakes on front, power steering and a little 289 and c4 tranny. Still some paint from 1964 on her and the wood on the floor is original. Not for sale at this time. joe

My 01 S10 4x4 ZR2 - 4.3l V6- Bought new, always keep maintenance up and use it for everything in reason for what it's made to handle. Early 70's had a 71 El Camino SS, Not much for a truck but was a whole lot of fun!

I wanted one of these since I was 10 and they first came out. 54 years later I finally got one that had been sitting in an orchard for 35 years. I did a full restoration and added the roll back. It's a great truck for hauling my tractors and such. 1957 5700 LCF - all original except 327 engine and Gear Vendors overdrive.

Nice rig.

Back in 60s place dad had rented had D series IH panel truck missing hood ,grill and other misc pieces. I used as playhouse.

My favorite is 63-64 Fords. Finishing up 64 short bed, 6cyl, 3 speed. Has 57-60 bed on it. Also have 63 F100 that was first truck along with 64 F700,63 unitbody. Have others as parts or just waiting. One that do miss is 48 KB2 IH.

My favorite is the 49 Chevy I had. Im not sure if I enjoy the truck or the times I had when I drove it. It wasnt any good for winter dating because it had no heater I had an ice scraper in the ash tray to clear the inside of the windshield

Unable to post a picture but my favorite is a 1977 ford f250 supercab that I bought new.Still have it after all these years, Bought a second one the same color and hope to restore them both and pass them onto the grandsons.

My 1951 IHC where I bought it. I sold it a few years later. New owner
installed a combine engine with some difficulties, but it is still on the road.
Was originally a baby blue color.

A little story: My Dad had 1952 Ford F-2. It had a flathead v-8, and 4sp with granny gear that you had to double clutch to shift gears. A few yrs ago I saw an ad for one, all stock. I told my wife I'd like to see it and drive it, that it would bring back memories for me. But I was not really wanting to own one, just cruise a bit. She said, go test drive it! But I said, I could not do that if I really was not going to buy it. So I passed on the idea. Anyways what I'd rather have is a classic '69 or'70 muscle car, even though either a car or the truck would be fun to cruise on sunny days. Mark.

Not sure that I have a favorite but the 55 Cameo is on the list.

Also on the list is the 68 GMC 2500 that my Father bought new when he retired from GM. 327 4V, Turbo 400, 4.10 posi rear axle, AC, and bucket seats. Ever see a 68 with AC and bucket seats?

I had restored it and it was destroyed by Hurricane Ike when the barn collapsed on it.

Dean

I still like Dad's 54 Chevy, he bought new. I don't use it anymore. Spedo stopped at 100 k. It's in retirement. Stan

The 1959 El Camino is ALMOST a truck! I dont think you can beat that Jet Age styling.
cvphoto105435.jpg

But if you need to haul stuff in style the Diamond ''T'' pickup is the way to go.
