Case 310 dozer 4 cyl gas engine

I am working on a old gas powered case dozer and it acts like it has jumped time but I read somewhere that they are gear to gear timing. It has the magneto and we put a coil on the outside and got it firing but it won't run and just back fires I put it in time #1 TDC on compression and lined the mark on the fly in the plug

Hello Daniel welcome to YT! Yes gears are what times the
cam and Mag drive. Check it out yourself see link. Not sure
if the machine you have matches the serial number range
of the diagrams I chose. The electrical section only shows
a distributor. If it is wrong you can choose the correct ones
by clicking ..model.. to search and type in 310. Most all
farm tractors and industrial machines utilize gears for that. Have you had it running or are you trying to start it after it
sat somewhere for quite sometime? If it sat it is possible
that an intake valve has stuck. Pull all the plugs and spin it
over holding your thumb over the plug holes one at a time
to see if they all push equal compression out. Most likely if
one or more is way less it likely has a stuck valve.

Since the Case 310 post is on,,I'm going to toss this out there to any one who may be interested,,I have a 310 here that has a bad differential, the guy I got it from gave up on fixing it,, I robbed the 6 way blade off of it,, the tracks and under carriage is good,, the engine and transmission was good,, it has sat for a couple years if anyone on here needs a good parts machine this is it,,I hate to junk it..I'm in central Ohio
