Go ahead, soon your tractor engine will have a new
feature a window on the side so you can check the
condition of the remaining internal parts. Pretty easy to just
put an override cable on the linkage to the carb and make it
so all you have to do is pull it when you think you need
some extra revs. For a tractor ride tractor I do not see why
you would want to eliminate your cruise control.

On the 3 HP B&S on my little mini bike I could reach back around and hold the throttle plate open with a finger. It held together amazingly well!

No I have not. In fact the thought never crossed my mind. Especially for a parade tractor. IMHO a parade tractor should be as original as possible.

I adjusted a governor one time because
it wasn't increasing RPM's like it
should, under engine load. Well long
story short, I must of adjusted it the
wrong way, because then it wouldn't
increase engine RPM's under a load you
might say, at all. Bigger pain in the
rear, because I was having to act as
the governor manuelly at the throttle.

I am not sure what your trying to
accomplish here for a parade tractor.
One that will not open up by governor
at all, only by throttle. Or one that
will open up to full bore and then
just stay there. Either way, I don't
think you would want either one.
Staying with a functional governor
would be best thing to do.

Because of safety concerns, in a parade around people, I would not bypass (delete) the governor. There is a set procedure for setting the governor, the same for all tractors.
Procedure: Engine shut off, remove the pin that connects the governor rod and carburetor throttle shaft. Put the throttle to wide open position, put carburetor throttle shift to wide open position. Pin should install with ease connecting the rod and throttle shaft hole.

When I was a kid (1950's) I was fascinated when the John Deere guys would stand up and reach down with their left hand and rev-up their 2 cylinder engine so they could climb the silage pile with a full load of fresh cut silage. Those were the days

The reason I asked is because the governor is wore out and needs rebuilt. The tractor is new to me and I would like to run it some before I put any more money or time into. The reason I said tractor ride are parade is because it will have no load on it other than climbing a hill. I never said nothing about trying to gain rpms.

What make and model of tractor are you talking about, something rare or something more common as to finding needed parts or even borrowing a governor for the testing phase before you decide whether or not to go ahead and work it over?

It's a moline zau. I'm sure parts would not be hard to find. I dont have any spare parts though and I also have other model tractors with governor problems so it's more of a general question.

Yes it can be done and with some judgement by the operator it can be run fine just tie the governor linkage up so it can move without flopping around or remove it. Dad had a Massey-Harris 44 I think he did what you want to do since the governor was worn out on it. Then he had it adjusted so it didn't over rev with the throttle. This was 50 plus years ago now and I was rather young so hard to remember just what was done on it then.

Thank you Caterpillar guy. I cant see why it wouldnt work. I mainly want to put a few miles on the tractor before I put any more money in it.
