My f F50 brakes

I just ordered new hub and rotors for my F 150. I replaced the pads a few years ago with a pad that really ate into my rotor, and turned the wheel dark from the brake dust. I don't want to have that happen again. What type pad should I get that will not eat up my new rotor? Thanks Stan

The ceramic pads wear the rotors. Simi Metalic pads are much less hard on rotors but have long wear. organic pads (like OEM) wear faster, but are least hard on the rotors. Jim

Ceramic pads wear like iron and eat rotors for breakfast. If you are going to do towing semi metalic is best, everyday driving go with kevlar.

don't know what rotors you ordered BUT there are a lot of quality differances in them , bought a cheap set one time and in no time they where warped, I guess cheap imported steel , payed good money and there still there 100k miles later

That dust you have is your stopping power. Ceramics don't have the stopping power of semi-metalics. For regular use they'll be fine, but if you tow loads, you want that extra stopping power.

My f350's brake job came in at under $500, for new pads, rotors, and calipers. Minus calipers and it would have been under $250 in parts. Ford truck parts are dirt cheap if you have an older truck.

I have a trick I play with advance auto parts. I sign into my account, add the item I want to my cart, and leave it overnight. In the morning, there will be a 25% off coupon in my email. Max discount, $50. So I'll do that 4-5 times maxing out the $50 discount, and place an order with the 25% off coupon. Break orders up a bunch of times, over the course of a week you can get all your items 25% off and save hundreds.

Looks like prices have increased though, I bought them and they were $80 a piece, now $125.

I order my brakes from Rockauto, I get the coated anti corrosion rotors and a high quality pad like Raybestos or Bendix. On the trucks I go with semi-metallic, passenger cars get oem ceramics.

Not always but often when one is getting excessive brake dust showing on the front wheels the cause is the rear brakes not doing their fair share.

Might not hurt to do an inspection on the rears while you are at it.

As far as pads go;

-Economy organic; Cheap to purchase, friction material wears out faster, rotors last a very long time.

-Ceramic pads; Long lasting but very hard on rotors, they work well on the right applications, heavy haulers, circle track cars etc.
On a first cold application they will not provide as good stopping power.

-Semi metallic; A balance between the two, longer lasting, good stopping power, will slightly wear rotors, more than adequate stopping power on most passenger vehicle types of applications.
