Another tire price check

I decided I better find new set of tires for the pickup before winter, and get them ordered now in case of limited supply. 2014 Ram 2500's original equipment were 275-70-18 Firestone HT's which seemed to wear well, so I asked to tire shops for the same, how much and when. One shop said none available and the other said 2-3 months and not sure what the price will be when they arrive. So I asked for alternatives and they suggested Hankook AT or General HD. I put a set of Hankooks on the wife's SUV and liked them, but didn't want the white letters on the pickup. I know, the letters don't make then go 'round any different but I've never liked the appearance on a pickup. Anyways my tire man says they are having good luck with the Generals on commercial trucks so I went with the HD's which are black wall and they can get in a week. $1070 all done. Tread looks much the same as the Firestones so I expect them to perform the same. Anyone running General HD's?

You can just install the white wall/letters on the inside. The only things that will see them are the little critters with excellent timing crossing the road in front of you. The ones with bad timing will never see them.

I never had much luck with General/Continental tires, never got more than 20,000 miles out of them. I always had good experience with Firestone, Goodyear, Cooper and Hankook. Just my personal experience

In 2007 my new GMC came with General tires. 300 miles later I put on a set of michelin LT tires. The generals road like iron wheels. They were about $800 for 4.

I know what you mean, had a tire shop convince me to do that once on a F350. Told the shop I ordered blackwalls but they came in with letters and they mounted them anyway. Letters to the inside and even painted them black for me. But the paint fell off and that truck sat high enough I could still see the letters when walking up to it. Cursed myself for accepting something less than what I paid for. Just one of life's annoyances I don't need.

I can't speak for the General Grabber HD's, but I'm using General Grabber AT/2 tires.

They came on a used truck we bought some years back. Lost that truck to an accident and bought a 2004 Chevy with Goodyear HP tires. Got home and got stuck in our own driveway, even in 4WD. Bought a set of the Generals for the Chevy. They rode smoother, MUCH quieter, and we don't get stuck in snow in 2WD. Handle great on pavement and on gravel.

But our tires are E1 rated. Don't have a clue about the HD tires, but the 14-ply sure are spendy.

you have to at least g tirerack.com a looksee. Free shipping. Cooper tires are up and coming favorite.

Glad my truck and Miss V's Jeep tires are all almost new.
Model T is good for a long time also.
All the tractors in good shape.
Got plenty of firewood and propane also.
And lots of canned stuff on the shelves.

You have to wash the blue off of the letters, and then paint them,I've done thousands.

looks to be plenty of these stones available on the east coast.

LT275/70R18 E TRANSFORCE HT they would run in the 1200 range out the door... Firestone has a buy back program if you don't like'em but don't tell anyone about it...

It does look like that size in all brands is not as well stocked...

I don't like Generals. As for the white lettering, tell them to mount the letters in unless the tread requires otherwise for traction.

I never though about paint till a bud stopped by with Goodyear racing tires on his supper bird. He said Goodyear paints the lettering on and so dose he.

I've had reall good luck with Hankooks. Cooper and Generals have been awful as far as wear. Best tires I ever had were a set of Hercules Terra Tracks. Not made anymore of course.

Have had great luck with Generals on Pathfinder we had. 60-70K on one set of them. On truck, am sold on Coopers. Got 51,000 out of a set of Cooper AT3s on 2015 3500 Ram 4x4. Factory Firestones lasted 27,000. I live on a gravel road. Just put another set on last year. I rotate every 5K. And mine has 20s on it so it was close to $1300 mounted and out the door.

Ask for goverment required tread wear imprinted on side of tire. Will give much better idea of wear miles, rather than tire dealers sales pitch of this tire will run x number of miles. I try to buy 750 or better tread ware.

Two 18" Blizzaks for the wife's truck were $753 with tax and mounting on the rims.
Ordered them 5 weeks ago and we got the last pair.

(quoted from post at 16:34:34 10/16/21) I Just looked them yo they must be good tires and 18 inch Is
about the size of a semi tire

My family travels on the winter tires with the best ice, slouch and snow traction .
Those driving on mud and snow tires or all seasons are either unaware or do not care that the vehicles stopping distance is several vehicles lengths farther at 30mph.

Discount Tire just put four new Pathfinder All Season tires on my wife's Highlander, 245/65/217 , under $800 out the door. She says they ride much smoother than the previous tires, which were new when we bought the vehicle used. The Pathfinder is made by Hankook for Discount.
