Picked this up at the auction a couple
weeks ago. Cranks, runs and drives
great. 3 point hitch works good too.
But, when I engage the pto and let the
clutch out it kills the tractor
instantly. Why??

Tractor off,pto disengaged, will not turn. First super A. Has a straight pto and a 90 degree pulley. Odd?

Does it have the gear box off of pto with pulley to run a belt for belly mower? it may be locked up. I don't have one on mine, just straight pto I hook up to rear sickle mower.

Good possibility water has rusted up the bearing at the belt pulley. On my A that bearing was shot but not froze up. Every time I have removed one of those pto/belt pulley units I have found water in them. I just did my 100 and I put some Teflon tape on the oil fill plug. Those plugs are pipe thread so I think over time water can leak past them.

The belt pulley and PTO shaft are two different parts. The belt pulley can be taken off first to see if that's the problem or taken off together. Probably both need to come off seperatly and reconditioned. You are supposed to remove the small plug at the bottom of the belt pulley housing and drain it when the transmission fluid is changed/drained. You can add fluid through the plug on top of the belt pulley housing to prelube it so it doesn't run dry until more gets pumped in from the transmission. Don't worry about over filling as any extra will drain back into.the transmission.

OT but I can't help it......my first tractor. Bought it from a coworker who grew up on a farm in Northern Oklahoma, now pretty much abandoned. We drove up from Dallas one weekend to get it and he showed us around the area. Paid $450 plus a fun trip....about 1979 was the year.

I just check the PTO/Belt pulley unit on that parts B that has the deluxe seat and it spins over real easy and is nice and tight as for the feel of the bearings etc. Left a message on your phone also
