John Deere 5065 dpf issues

I am having trouble with my 5065 smoking when I accelerate, use the hydraulics. Deere tech thinks the dpf filter is stopped up.
It does go in regen but it doesnt seem to be doing anything. My other tractors smoke some and you can smell fumes. None of these things happen on the 5065

Any ideas

Thanks

The only thing I can tell happens is the regen light in the dash. The engine speed does not increase no smell,no smoke. I cant force a park regen. The Deere tech told me how many regens happened over a period of time he seemed to be ok with it

Thank you

What kind of work do you do with this tractor mostly? Mowing, loader work? I have one with over 600 hours on it and have only noticed it going through a re-gen three times, and you could barely tell the difference when it did it.

If it has a DPF filter, there never should be any smoke whatsoever. If it is clogged there are sensors on both sides of the filter to see the pressure difference between inlet and outlet, to tell if it is clogged. These readings are able to be read with the diagnostic computer. The way a DPF works is- the engine computer senses the need to regen and over fuels a tiny bit, usually with an injector downstream after the turbo. The extra fuel hits the catalyst face in the DPF and causes the burn. This burn results in ash which is collected in another part of the DPF, which eliminates smoke and harmful particulates from entering the air. There are also inlet and outlet temperature sensors, as well as NOx sensors. You have to really understand the system to interpret the readings and do diagnostics. Your tech should have done a forced regen, too. Mark.

On average my tractors do a regen about every 50 hours. They do get hot when they do, and it lasts about 30-45 minutes with an increased rpm....

I do not know if tech did forced regen. I cant do a park regen. Not sure what is right and wrong

Thanks

A parked regen can only be done if the system requires it. I retired 6 1/2 yrs ago and can not remember what light would come on to tell you to do a regen. If it needs regen and cannot do it on it's own, it is supposed to tell you via a warning light. If it needs a regen and does not get it, it will/should go into limp mode/idle only mode. Your owners manual should explain this. I was truck tech and this system came along just a few yrs before I retired, so I did not get a lifetime of experience on this system, and may forget a few details, and have not worked around any 'newer' stuff since.
No offense intended, but you may need another JD. tech to diagnose this, not everyone completely understands everything about these systems. You really need to know the science behind how they are intended to work, especially when they have re occurring problems. With the diagnostic laptop, a tech can do a forced regen anytime. We did this a lot of times to verify the filter was clean. A system that has DEF in addition to a DPF, usually had less trouble needing regens, but more trouble with the DEF side of the system. Good luck, Mark.

Also to do a parked regen, beside the warning lamp on, certain parameters have to be met, such as park brake has to be on. And if you set it and the computer/ecm does not 'see' it on, you could have a bad park brake switch, for example. Again, your owners manual should explain this. Mark.

A clogged DPF filter can undoubtedly cause this issue, so it's good that the Deere tech suggested having it checked out.
