Rest In Peace

Inspired by Ultradog's excellent post below:

We returned to the home of a friend and neighbor we had just laid to rest, and drank a toast to him from a twelve pack of his favorite beverage. We opened one can and left it on his porch chair. When I next drove by, it was gone.

I have spent a lot of time in old cemeteries, and plan to spend lots of time in one more. I took the photos below in a nearby family plot. On another more modern and elaborate marker in the same cemetery, "Hanchett" is inscribed with a double "t".

I actually like walking around cemeteries where I grew up - its like a walk through history. You find people you knew as a kid growing up, past family members maybe you never knew and sometimes some class
mates.

I put out the flags at our parish cemetery and one other small
local cemetery for memorial wknd , and I am talking just about
all the time asking everyone how there doing . Lots of
memories

Most likely the cemetery caretaker removed it. You're not supposed to leave anything around the graves but flowers, no junk, not even sentimental junk. They have to mow the grass, and they already have enough obstacles to mow around.

If you go and ask you can probably get the chair back if you want it.

BY you sure read that different then I did. He said he was
at his ..home.. and left the beverage on the ..porch chair.. I
get it that UD was in the actual cemetery, but it does not
sound to me like this guy was. Not really sure why I care to
split hairs on this.
Edit to add: Zeke, my condolences to you on the loss of your friend!

Don't want to split hairs. I try to be nice, but the person in question does not read posts fully or does not understand what he is reading. This has happened to me several times. Needs to contain his frustration until he has read a post a couple of times. Nice enough guy...helpful even...but short fuse.

ot much?

Way back in the middle of August, I posted in the IH section and I mentioned that I had converted an IH H to a spin on filter....40+ years ago. Over a tractor that he will never see, drive or own, Barnyard went on a rant that I was just a parts replacer and something about THE MAN a couple of times. It made no sense whatsoever and I just thought he forgot to take some meds. I had a good laugh about it.

Zeke, you have my condolences

I tell my kids I want placed on my headstone I TOLD YOU I WAS SICK...... Last Memorial Day some of my kids were at the
cemetery where my mother is buried and the wife and I have the next two adjoining plots so I laid down on the ground over my
plot telling them I wanted to see if I fit. I bet the day I'm laid to rest they will remember that...

At my age we start thinking about death so may as well get prepared......My cousin in law just called told me her brother (
(my age) visited them 2 weeks ago was fine n well but he is in Hospice right now gonna die anytime from cancer WOW SO FAST
ONE DAY FINE TWO WEEKS LATER GONNA DIE grrrrrrrrr

Best wishes everyone, be happy while you can. Lifes not really all that short its just that you're gonna be dead for such a
long time
