Use of blacktop sealer

I think this was discussed before, but I think it was under a different heading. Has anyone used blacktop sealer on their truck frames for rust prevention? If so was it effective?

It would probably keep moisture away from most of the frame, but in some areas moisture would be trapped under it so it would never evaporate and would provide an excellent environment for the rust to grow 24-7.

My brother has an old truck he painted extensively with bed liner. I think it is over thirty years old and still drive able. I would not use blacktop sealer, that sounds like a sticky mess.

DON'T DO IT! And don't use undercoating either. All you're doing is trapping moisture between the air and metal. If you have a brand new vehicle, go with Cosmoline. Get it done right the first time and you will never have to worry about it again. If it's a used vehicle, clean it as well as possible, get it dried out and use Fluid Film. Get is done professionally if you have to, but figure it's going to be an annual or maybe every 2-3 year thing if you aren't in a road salt area.
