A bit of plowing

My husband did a bit of plowing on Saturday with our 1931 Farmall Regular and steel wheeled Little Genius plow.

I rode with him for a few rounds. We both had fun!

It was a grey cloudy day- so pics are not as good as if we'd had some sun.

Coming...

Sweetfeet. I thought that 31 was your yard art tractor. Not joking. Those are great photos and thank you for posting. What a great combination. Wingnut

Your skill with photos is admirable. Thanks for your efforts. I think we traveled in your area on Saturday.

Glad to see it in its rusty glory and is still productive. Reminds me of many geezers here that just keep going even if a bit slower. Thanks for taking us on the tractor ride.

No need to apologize for the photos. Theyre quite good. A cloudy day, i.e. diffused light, reduces contrast and increases color saturation, allowing for greater visible detail.

I always enjoy your photos. You have a good eye for subject matter and composition. Keep em coming.

Great pictures! I love the old equipment. That does look like fun and relaxing. It's been since highschool since I was on steel wheels. A highschool buddy of mine were pretty big farmers. His dad had a collection of old steel wheel tractors and implements. Juts for fun we would plow with it.

Great photos.
Why is he wearing a coat.
Just came in from mowing grass with my 69 year old Ford.
T shirt and sweating.
And what is that black stuff on the wheels.
Should be red.

A light jacket felt good on Saturday while we were hiking in Wisconsin. Temp was mid 50s and a breeze was blowing off a nearby lake.

Great pictures...I always loved plowing and sure do miss those days..They dont have any plow days close to me or I would go and do it...

When i saw your picture a few days ago, like wingnut, I too thought that was just yard art. Great pictures of a fine old machine and a fine a fine job of plowing as well.

That is cool using a tractor and plow from the past.
Never have to worry about flat tires.
Tractor must have a healthy engine. no smoke.
Thanks for the pic.

Do't be concerned about taking pictures with clouds. You will not have near as many shadows. Look at the pictures that you posted, virtually no shadows.

Sweetfeet. Thank you for showing us your pictures. I'm the guy with a 1931 Regular also. I did have a IH Little Genius plow also. I wonder how many of these so called newer tractors will be around and be able to plow like our 90 years old Regulars. Good Luck and thanks again. Mine runs strong also. Mtman

Nice to see you're still here. I've kinda been laying low for some time, working on a Virago MC and a Caseomatic 800. Got ridof the cowa three years ago, and just crop farm now. Just thought I'd say 'hi', and it looks like you're still having fun.....

Nice place you have there. Really nice to see the old Regular working. I like those old girls. May have to buy one some day when the line out the shop door thins out a bit.

now thats my way of doing stuff with this old iron, keep it original and put it to work. looks good! u will never see a shiny tractor back in the day earning its keep.

rustred,

Thanks! We do like our rusty old Reg and the ol' plow. I helped 'restore' both those ol' girls by heading up parts procurement via ebay, and phone calls/emails to people selling parts and going to junkyards with my husband. It was a lot of fun and we took our time and enjoyed the process.

pcsaw,

Thanks!

I might plow a couple of rounds next weekend if the weather is good and we are able to plow a little more. It depends if our renter comes and rips up the field before then.

greenmech,

It was fun, Ron.

What auction did you go to? Haven't been to an auction in ages... nor a junkyard for that matter. :(

stevob671,

Thank you! The old barn will likely get siding someday. We roofed it back when we had livestock about 25 years ago. At some point my husband cut a bunch of openings into it, so we use it like a machine shed now.

Dave H MI,

Thanks!

You should get a Reg... they have a really cool sound because of the spark arrester (a.k.a 'spud muffler).

Hi, Don! Good to 'see' you too! Ya should come around more often.

I bet you miss the cows... BUT enjoy the lighter work load (that's the way we felt when we stopped raising hogs).

Yeppers, still try to have fun as often as we can. We both get a lot of enjoyment out of the simple things in life.

I steel cain't pell fer diddleeee tho - pecially when I post from my cell fone. LOL

Thanks, Jwondergem.

I don't get out and take pics nearly as often as I used to. Gettin' a little older and little more tired. SIGH

MtMan,

Yeppers, I recall you have a Regular too. They are a neat sounding old tractor.

Yeah, I don't think today's tractors are gonna make 'the long haul' like these old critters that we all love.

Hope you are staying well and continuing to do things you enjoy.

Thanks, Vito.

Kind of miss taking tractors to shows and plow days... we mostly just hang out with our tractors at home. Getting to be too much work for hubby to winch that old girl and the plow on the tractor anymore. And he doesn't want to spend the money on an electric winch.

Thanks, George.

Yep, that old girl runs like a top! And my husband continually tinkers with it anyway. GRIN

Brian G.,

Nope - she is 'functional yardart'. That was the deal we made before we bought it.

coolhand,

We own the F-20 that belonged to my husband's grandpa - it is painted though (grey). And we have a painted Genius (that I THINK is a No. 8).

My husband plowed with the F-20 that afternoon... but I was doing computer work, so did not get pics of that one.

1206SWMO,

We just plow on years when it's been stubble. It is fun... and one doesn't get all the plugging as with corn trash. LOL

BillCENTRALMO,

Yep - she runs really well. We spent a lot of time (and way too much money LOL), fixing that old girl up.

She looked like the wreck of the Hesperus when we dragged her home. :)

Richard,

Like 5550 Ron said... it was a mite cold here Saturday. Then alas, HOT again by Sunday. Still hot today... and of course we pulled the AC out of the windows on Saturday.

Well, you know I love that red dirt down south... we just ain't got any here - you and Miss V should bring me some. GRIN

johnofnewhaven,

We did have a lot of fun! But the next day, I could tell my husband was feeling the pain of that hard/solid old seat.

In the field is much better than on our gravel yard.
That tractor can give ya a chiropractic adjustment going across gravel. LOL

55 50 Ron,

Thank you kindly.

You must have been in the SE part of the tropical part of the state?

Thank you, Ellis.

I do take long-shots... with the desired composition in mind, because I have to crop them to upload to YT.

wingnutTX,

Nope - she runs great. She was only yard art for a couple of years... until we rounded up all the needed parts and my husband got the old girl running.

That was the deal before we bought it. I wanted a rusty tractor for yardart. Husband said OK... IF I agreed to let him get it running. Done deal! :)

Thanks, Larry!

Those zinnias are still hangin' on... and there are 3 new blooms. Nice weather all week yet too. :)

Outstanding!!!!! He did a great job of getting the moldboard setup and obviously knows how to use it!!!!!!! Looks like the engine has a lot of life left...didn't see any smoking.

Texas Mark,

Yep, he's been around a field or two in his day...

He grew up on a dairy farm. His dad put him to driving the baler tractor when he was 7 years old. He's been running machines ever since.

The ol' Regular runs great. We've got so much money sunk into that thing that it ain't even funny! But I confess, I was a willing participant. LOL
