Round Up brush killer

Anybody know whats different for the brush killer version vs just plain Round Up. I have some poison ivy to kill and plenty of regular Round Up on hand. I wondering if I need a surfactant for the poison ivy and a stronger solution of Round Up to do the job. I've never seen poison ivy here in the 40 years we have been here until this year it its around my front side walk so its got to go.

Always use a surfactant if what you are spraying has shiny smooth type leaves, here in Texas when we spray mesquite we always use a surfactant.

If just a small amount of poison ivy, why not just pull it out? I have had good luck that way. It's at the point where I don't even wear gloves as I seem to be resistant to it. Try not to touch the leaves to stay away from its bad effects.

I've found that Round up doesn't

Kill everything. I think 2 4 D does a better job of killing some weeds and brush.
So I blend 2 oz of Roundup, 2 oz of 2 4 D, and 4 oz of Pramitol per gallon of water.
Sprayed drive way, waited 2 weeks and sprayed again. This pic of drive was taken about 2 months after the last spray. Use all this mix at once or it will crystallize.
I think a weak mix works better than complete burn down all a once. An old guy said,
a weaker mix has more time to get to the roots. I believe him.

Adding soap won't hurt. I like to spray after dew is gone and the sun is shinning.

Post back if you find what works best.

We use more 2,4-D for killing brush and weeds, but if you want to kill everything, mix the 2 together, but then the weeds will come back first! We buy generic glyphosate, I think 41%, it doesn't matter so much what you buy, it's how you mix it. We mix it 3 oz to the gallon, with some dish soap. We probably should buy some surfactant.

You need to read the label. Round Up is a brand name, not a specific herbicide. The regular RU you have is likely just glyphosate. The brush herbicide will have other additional ingredients. Glyphosate by itself isnt all that great at killing brush and vines, thats why there are brush and vine specific herbicides.
If you are buying Round Up brand stuff, it has surfactant already in it. Though I have found that adding crop oil really speeds things up.

George. Good morning Chief. If you have a box blade with scarfacers maybe drag the box lightly and freshen up the aggregate. Itd look a whole lot better. Wingnut

I don't want to disturb the gravel. It's packed in nicely. I want to keep the Pramitol on the surface to kill future weeds.

The round up brush and poison ivy killer has Triclopyr in it.
While Round Up; Glyphosate; works great on grass and other green leafy plants it does not do a great job on woody plants.

I suggest you save your Round Up and get something specifically made to kill brush and vines.
Some of these guys can comment better but I'm thinking Remedy is made with Triclopyr.
Remedy mixed with diesel will kill even the hard to kill woody plants.
For your small area buying a small bottle of brush; vine and stump killer at your local store would be best.

I think you are going to see your spraying will pretty much be over with the Pramitol at work things will not come back like they have with the roundup

jm,
I added Pramitol to what I had mixed up in sprayer, roundup and 24D.
I think in the future I'll mix up just Pramitol, one and done. I plan to take this mix and see if it will kill a stump that tries to grow a tree. Last fall I killed all the leaves with 24d. Thought I killed it. It came back this year. It's a 3 ft diameter stump. May take a lot to kill it. Might drill holes and add mix.

That's what I do. I only use one hand and consider it dirty and don't touch anything with it. As long as I wash my hands within 30 minutes with good hand cleaner, I'm good to go.

2-4D or Harmony but either will kill nearly all broad leaves they come in contact with so care needs to be taken with any nearby plants that you want to survive.

No. You can google the different names of the various herbicides, and find the labels with the ingredients listed, what it treats, and what spray rate to mix. A lot of generic names: pay attention to the ingredients. Never mix low rate, always use the highest rate to prevent immunity. Mark.

Pramitol is supposed to soak thru the gravel into the soil, sterilizing the soil. The label says only use once a year, I believe. Mark.
