AC B Starting Problem

Been working on restoration of an AC B with a stuck engine. My plan was to stay with the original 6v, positive ground starting system. So I had the starter and generator rebuilt. In the meantime, I found another B model that was rebuilt years ago. Thought the price was good, so I decided to buy. It has a converted 12v system and starts and runs. Since I had already spent money to rebuild a starter and generator, decided to get a 6v battery and switch the tractor back over to 6v, positive ground. However, the new setup will barely turn the engine over now, and I can't figure out what the trouble is. As I said, battery is new and the starter is getting 6v. Not that familiar with 6v systems, so I'm wondering if I missed something. Just looking for things to try before I give up and go back to the 12v system it came with.

Its possible the starter was rewound for 12v and won't work on 6. The 6v starter would work for years on 12, but some guys like to have them rebuilt for 12.

Did you use the battery cables made for 6 volt systems, much bigger than 12 volt ones, also you might want to ground to something other than the steering post.
