Headed to the bridge

I seen a 5 or 6 headed north on 127 yesterday. I am sure thats where they were headed. One was a farmall 460 maybe 560 with a v8 something in it. big chrome stacks sticking up on each side.

Have a good time. I think there are around 30 from our club going. Our son is getting married Saturday, so I'll be at that instead.

I was up there a few years ago just to watch a few friends. Parked my 30ft. fifth wheel camper right in the middle of town, I got there early. Although I wasn't able to leave until everyone was on the bridge and everyone started leaving in their vehicles. They have a big staging area just West of town for the tractors and their support vehicles to park.

There is a state park about 3 -5 miles west of bridge. Tractors are unloaded and staged there..It is quite the sight to see that many in one location. Someone drops a green flag and then your off to the races.. I think one of the driving lanes is steel grid so that means that you can see the water under the tractor. A long way under the tractor. They have had north of 1000 tractors on the trip.

Actually spelled Mackinac, with a c on the end. It is the French spelling used on The Bridge, though pronounced like the spelling with the w, like the British spelled it.

Pronounce the word with a c sound on the end and not the w sound, locals will know youre a tourist.

Have fun tomorrow all !

I've crossed that bridge several times in a car, don't know if I could handle it on a tractor on that mesh floor. Have a nice trip.

I've been across it by car, pick up, semi many times, and motorcycle quit a few times. The worst was with the motorcycle one year, we were riding in the rain and wind. I had all I wanted to hold onto the bike coming across, and couldn't wait until we got off. Besides that my rain suit sprung a leak at the barn door.

I'm jealous as ...heck! It's on my bucket list but not this year. I did just get back from the Flywheeler's show in South Haven. Will be headed back there tomorrow. Good times.

i crossed that water by ferry a few years before the bridge was started. Been over a few times by car since. As someone else said I don't think I'd stay sane driving it on a tractor.

(quoted from post at 11:35:35 09/10/21) Headed for the Mackinaw bridge drive again this year leaving today.

Went on a bus trip to Michigan a few years ago and visited Mackinac Island which I had remembered from the movie "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve. We stayed over in Mackinaw City the night before the tractors were scheduled to make the crossing. There were a whole bunch of tractors in a big park just up the road from Mackinaw City and I talked the bus driver into driving through so we could look at all the tractors. That's when I learned that Mackinac and Mackinaw are pronounced the same but spelled differently. Beautiful area "up" there.
