First good day...

After a false start yesterday that spent a lot of time back in the shop, here's a picture of silage chopping. For an eroded hilltop in a drought, the crop isn't too bad...

This field was corn after corn no till, so there is a lot of residue on the ground.

I got mine chopped today. First time ever. Non fertilized land also in drought. Got 7.3 ton per acre. Not bad for no fertilizer I did spray round up once.
Cost to hire to do it all except I had to cover the pile was $14 a ton. I didnt think it was to bad a price. 3 hours they had 36 acres wrapped up.

Looks good. I finished corn silage today and have hay to chop the next two days. I let my corn get a little to dry this year. I guess it will not freeze as hard this winter. Sure is nice weather to be out working. Tom

That is some great looking corn, what kind of chopper? I thought new holland but the spout looks different.

Glad to hear you are done. It is beautiful weather! Always seems if there is a tropical storm somewhere, we get great weather... unless you want rain!

I was making good progress today, went to change wagons at about 3:15 and had a rear tractor tire leaking chloride around the valve stem. I called Tony and he said all the service trucks were out. It'll be first thing tomorrow morning before they can get here to fix it. I guess some days are like that.

Probably pencils out better to have your own equipment for a few more acres. I couldnt justify for 36 acres.
I would like a ear picker to pick cobs.
