Ferguson T20 high oil pressure

i have a 1950 Ferguson T-20 serial number 23334
i replaced the oil pressure gauge that was on the tractor that was color coded. the gauge was near the High indication
and replaced it with a 0-60psi gauge.
It reads 40 psi at start up, and only comes down to near 35 when the engine is hot. Currently the oil used is a straight 30 weight.
i have just changed it along with a new filter.

the manual suggests max pressure of 25psi at max throttle.

Should i worry?

You are good. I believe that is a by-pass system and a
restriction in the filter system controls oil pressure, at least
thats how it works in the 50.
 
My Ferguson Dealer shop manual for TE20,TO20 and TO30 with Continental engines says 30 psi at 2200 RPM and 15 lbs minimum at idle. These numbers are for thoroughly warm engine.

i don't know much history on this tractor but I've had it 5 years and it has always had "high" oil pressure. that hasn't changed.
I have no idea how accurate the new gauge is, nor the original 3-zone indicator. i suspect they are accurate to at least 5% which is fine for this application i would think.

i wonder if the oil pressure relief valve setting or the spring in the relief assembly may be worn or need adjustment.

i suppose if everyone says oil psi on the high side isn't the worse thing that could happen i should not mess with the setting.

i should add the head gasket does leak some oil (not enough to measure, but easy to see and would not be acceptable for a show tractor)
the head was worked on before i owned the tractor and believe the work was done diligently and correctly, but i don't really know.

maybe the head work wasn't great or at higher operating pressure one gets some leakage even with reasonable care when head is re-attached overhaul.
