Ready for the show

My grandson Randell spent the weekend with me and helped get some things ready for my local show. Taking my 1030 and 6-16s plow, 400 and grinder/mixer, and my 1160 combine. It's a small show, but a lot of fun and lots of demonstrations. I doubt they will have corn to run the combine, but will likely grind something and plow a bit.

Very nice!

I cant imagine pulling 6-16 with 100hp. I was hard on my 85hp tractor with a 4-16, I ran a 4-18 behind a 145 hp tractor and had a lot of rock in the box to keep the front down, was using a slow gear in some situations. Your timber soils I think you have must plow easy. The clay down this end of the state does not!

This plow is too much in my soil. It can handle it, but it's tough on the tractor. 5-16s or 4-18s would be better. This works ok if the ground is a bit lighter. Case actually sold the 1030 as a 7 plow tractor and quite a few went out with them.

I'm a big fan of the 30 series Case tractors, but calling the 1030 a 7 plow tractor is ridiculous, IMHO.

It looks like they have a healthy collection as well as being joined by numerous exhibitors. They show a Early Z on the rock crusher and a KC Lightning on the baler. You dont see that every day.

A lot of 930 westerns went out pulling 6 bottoms and more than a few 830s spent their lives pulling 5. The 1030 did not do well in most cases with 7, but 6 was common.

The 30 series Case came out about the time my area (rice fields) was moving to the heavy cutting discs. The 930 standard pulled a 3 bottom plow just like a 4020 did. They would both pull a 4, but you could cover ground faster with the 3. Tire slippage was also an issue. We had 4 behind the 4020 and in one day it tore the lugs off a 7 lug BFG tire. 1030's would pull 4 really well and without slippage. By 1970 everyone had gone to the heavy cutting 9' Taylor-Way disc for the tractors this size.
The main reason plows were stopped was if you plowed a field and got a heavy rain, the ground would hold water like a bath tub. Clods on top would be hard as a rock and underneath would be water. I always liked to plow and have had a 930 standard for close to 40 yrs.

In my area my dad bought a 730ck new in 1966 with a new JR 4-16,s plow.Still have both.My 1030 will pull 6-16,s all day long with a plow packer too. We have mostly a Sandy loam soil with no rocks. It all depends on what soil conditions you have.I have seen heavy clay soil that a 1030 had all it could do to pull a four bottom.

It makes no difference what color your run or what the manufacturer rates it in # of plows, when you drop in in the ground, it will only pull what your soil will allow it to.

Wait, you are going to a small local show? I thought your farm WAS a small local show featuring Case every weekend!

That looks like a lot of fun . You are lucky to be able to have something like that close by Id have to haul equipment half way across the country .
