I found this a couple years ago while mowing. I tossed it out of the way but always have wondered what it was. It's a little over a foot long. It looks like it had pins that allow it to hinge. Maybe off an old stove?

I think you have one of the few made. Maybe a drain cover? Good chance someone here will know. Stan
 
That goes in a hog water trough. It allows the hogs to get to clean water but lets the dirt and feed that the hogs deposit in the water when they drink to settle into the bottom of the trough below the grate. The hinge is to allow you to raise it up to clean under it. Typically cleaned them out daily. Picture number 2 is the orientation of the grate in the trough.

Wrong! Thats not a top cover for a waterer. Its the top
