The post about the USS Iowa got me thinking , was anyone on here or maybe there father or grandfather on the USS Southerland? My father was a sonar-man during WW2 onboard the Southerland.

The USS Southerland DDR743 was the second Gearing Class Destroyer functional and one of the few Gearings that actually fought in WWII. It is a strong rumor that she was the first ship to drop anchor in Tokyo Bay in 45. I had the priviledge of being on her from Aug 60 til the spring of 63. USS Frank Knox DDR742 was the first one built, both built in Bath, Maine.
