Getting older

Don't worry about getting older. You're still going to do dumb stuff, Only Slower.

I'm not sure where I got this quote. Hope it wasn't from YT. That would be dumb...

I just celebrated my 83rd, God has certainly blessed me.
I live in Baton Rouge, where hurricane Ida just came through.
No damage to home, just limbs wrenched from live oak in back yard.
This is tractor related, I have a M F super 90 and Kubota L245 in N W AR.

Getting older also causes bain dam age mem ory loss.
Sorry. I thought my sister sent this to me...

I've begun making it a practice to ask myself if I've told a story before, to the person I'm speaking with. It requires some patience while assessing the likelihood as your carrying on a conversation. Fighting senility isn't easy. lol

Well I have decided that I can't afford to hurt myself so I am constantly paying attention to what I'm doing and prior to the event, ask myself if I am safe and if not I get safe.......Also rather than jumping into something I now procrastinate somewhat giving myself time to think through this and that. Its paying off.

I don't do something if I don't feel comfortable doing it. Daughter and I went up to church to change a light bulb in the foyer the other day and I took my 8' step ladder. Not tall enough to get me where I needed to be, I came down and told her NOPE, not today. I'll buy a 10 or 12 ladder before I stand on the next to top rung. My equilibrium/bi-focal glasses just don't like heights with nothing to catch me. I'll go up 30'-60' in a man lift, but I have a cage to hold me.

I'm 86, and that's one thing I've noticed.

I no longer feel comfortable doing something off of a ladder that I wouldn't have given thought to even a few years ago.

A couple of weeks ago, I had to replace a light fixture under the 12' ceiling in my shop. I set up a section of scaffolding and stood on that.

I hear you Phil, but being at church, there are always plenty of tables and chairs to stack to put the ladder on! LOL

But seriously, I am limiting my ladder climbing now. Between loss of balance, a bad knee, it's just not worth it. Part of my job at work is maintaining the roof top AC units. Time to hand that off to the young guns, or they can call in HVAC service.

I understand.
I don't like climbing a ladder anymore.
I will be 69 this week and I sure don't want to fall and break a hip or anything else.
But, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.I will call on a grand daughter to hold the ladder when I am about to come down off my house or shop roof.
I have had 3 bad ladder accidents.
One was pretty bad and the other 2, I was fortunate not to be hurt badly.

Richard I've haven't had ladder issues yet.
When Dr asks what I'm allergic to I tell him pain and gravity.
Falling causes pain.

I'm with you.

Work in a factory. Heights don't bother me using a lift, but ladders.....

Built a shop 14' to the ceiling, started to run conduit for lights with a 10' ladder, said nope, bought a 12'.

Had a bout with vertigo a few years back. Never has completely settled down.
