I'm still in need of a set of gathering wheels for either a
case IH 8420 or 30. i have a set of Heston but they will not fit my baler.
Anybody know of an equipment salvage yard that might have them?. I called
Frys in Pa. and they have 1 sert without the rubber wheels on them but they
are pretty fond of them. I'f kinda like to fin a used set at a reasonable
price if possible. I posted on the Case and on the IH forum but not any
response much down there

Post on Implement forum. I know someone down there posted how they couldnt get replacement parts for the guide wheels on a CaseIH baler/built by Heston. And they made the parts they needed from cutting the bottoms out of large plastic barrels. And then bolting the plastic parts on to the original guide wheel frames. Even had a picture

I have a Heston 530. I think it is the same as the 8430 you mentioned. I cut the sidewall out of a tire and bolted on the metal disk. It worked fine until I turned too sharper and broke the metal disk off.

The ones I have are supposed to be from a 530 but the arms are straight and the mounting bracket is on the side of the tongue (below the twine box. mine is under the baler itself. I believe the wheel is also bigger than what the 8430 takes too. If it weren't, I could add to the arm and put the proper bend in them and use them. the 8420 and 30 also have a straight bar that sticks out behind the wheel to deflect the hay inward so it will be picked up. I was going to buy an old 8420 at an auction yesterday more than I would pay that had a set on it. It had bad belts and was about completely worn out, but it went for almost 5000 which is way more than it was worth to me for a little 3x4 baler.

Keith, we run a a 8420,530, a new Idea 4643. All three use the same wheels, but have seen older 5530 Hesstons with the long straight arms that hold the wheels. In my opinion, which only is an opinion we have stopped lowering the wheels and havent used them in 5 years, maybe more. The trick is in the rake job. We use Kuhn rotary rakes that make a very narrow but fluffy windrow. We leave very little hay behind. Most times none. Might be cheaper n easier to swap out rakes than hunt up crowd wheels. Al

We are currently using a V rake an we don't miss much but I prefer a clean field when I get done. I still have my side delivery that works fine but the V rake is so much faster. Guess I just need to slow down in my retirement. Thanks all for the replies
