Or at least you would think that is the case looking at the lines.

Major Cat 3 hurricane headed toward us.
Some schools are already closing and mandatory evacuations along the coast.
Predicting isolated spots with 15 inches of rain and winds 75 to 100 mph.
My hysterical wife is packing already.

Can't say I blame her for packing. We had a thunderstorm come through here Tuesday late afternoon that about had me sitting in the corner rocking and sucking my thumb. Every time I thought that whistling wind couldn't get any higher pitch, it did. I think it might have finally gotten so high that only the dog could hear it. Wind and fire, two things that scare the bajeebers out of me. I don't want any part of it.

I was supposed to fly into NOLA this Sunday night for work. I think we will reschedule that trip...

I wish good luck to you and your family sir. Maybe you will get out of it with minimal or no damage.

Ah the hysteria begins!

At least there is fair warning with a somewhat accurate reality.
Gives many a choice to run or stay.

John I know exactly what you are going through. My camp is 8 miles from Cameron in the marsh. Remember. As tough as it sounds all of the material things can be replaced. We are about 1/2 way done rebuilding and Im under insured. There is a hard rule that if your structure is south of the Inter-coastal Waterway then very hard to get insurance period. Huge risk. Never give up hope. Prayer too will get you thru this. Dont separate from your family but be sure to help the elderly. Whatever happens dont allow anyone to escape to the attic. Guaranteed death by drowning. My prayers and rosary will be for you and family Sunday evening. Wingnut

It was the summer of 1957 and I was working as a deck hand on a tug boat during the summer months while school was out. We left Galveston with 4 barges of Sulphur from the Texas Gulf Coast Sulphur Co. headed for NOLA via the Intercoastal Water Way. I think I was told it was 30 miles (of flat, swampy marsh) to Cameron from the canal. I'm thinking the hurricane was Audrey.

Anyway remembering the eye hit Cameron and the debris was up and past the canal...animals, propane tanks, refrigerators....anything that would float. It was a horrible experience for us passing through....nobody could eat or sleep, and our hearts went out for the residents of that small fishing village and surrounding area that had to live through that catastrophe. Later on that summer I was back through there and we passed a swamp buggy, the ones with the 4 huge R1 type tread flotation tires and open air cabin way up in the air...rumor had it that they had found another body.

I was born and raised on the coast and hurricanes were one reason that when I was old enough to make my decisions, I left!
