Two weeks ago we had a storm. Depending on who you talk to there was 5-7 inches of rain in 12 hours. Power out for days. Streams running like rivers over their banks and across roads. Here two weeks later we have clouds of mosquitos. You can use repellant but the temps are around 90 degrees each day with no wind and high humidity. After 15 minutes in the shop I sweat thru my clothes and they bite me right thru my shirt. About as bad as I have seen.

In Indiana the practice may still be to wait till the suction tube comes out the other side, clinch it over sideways , then beat them to death with the ball peen used to do the clenching. Jim

In western Kentucky we have a very few Salt Marsh mosquitoes. They are almost as big as a wasp. They can bite thru jeans and overalls. About as painful as the horsefly or stablefly. If they finish a blood meal on a child, it leaves a huge whelp. Almost makes you wish for frost!
They breed in brackish waters that occurred near strip mines. Coal production is down and environmental regulations have helped. Formidable Creatures!

In south Alabama we have them year round, doesnt get cold enough to kill them or run them off. Makes deer hunting miserable for sure along with the biting gnats.

We had rain too. Annoying little gnats or whatever hatched and they fit through the screens.

Got them over here in the Port Huron area. Biggest ones I have ever seen, about 3x the normal size, and lots of them. Picked flowers yesterday for 10 minutes and killed 10, was bit by another dozen where I was not fast enough on the slap.

It has been a very wet year here in the Northeast as well. We have very few mosquitoes though because I operate a bat condominium complex in my 32 x 48 post and beam barn that houses 100 of them.
