I shouldn't admit this

Ford 841 was running good after carb swap. But valve cover gasket was leaking, badly. Off with the hood and gas tank. Decided to check valve clearance while we were in there, little tweaking here and there. Valve cover and gas tank back on. New coil and distributor cap, too. Fire it up. Runs like crap. Won't run for more than a minute, then dies. What the heck. Fooled with it for an hour. Agter it died again for the 100th time,I snatched the gas line off at carb, was just a trickle. Then I remembered that the cut off under the tank won't cut totally off,it leaks just a little. We put an in line cut off on the gas line. Well out of habit I had screwed the tank cut off in to closed. It would leak until carb was full and with tractor running it couldn't keep up! So tractor would die. Good grief!!! Turned it open and then had to adjust carb and distributor, we had been twisting stuff like crazy to make it run... Back to running good again.

Grandpa,
You are having the onset of senior moments. You have no idea how many times that has happened to me. Be careful, the older you get the more often you will have senior moments.

Kevin, wish I had a dollar for every time I cranked my 8N and backed it out of the shed to mow and it died because I forgot to turn the gas on.

Welcome to the club! Happened to me a few days ago. Had the tractor idling outside the shop when it sputtered and died. I started thinking of all the things that could be wrong, then it hit, I didnt turn the gas on! I felt dumb and relieved at the same time!

Out at Farmamerica we have a WC Allis. We had it running about a month ago and moved it around.
Last week we went to move it again and it would not start. I looked in the tank and there was gas in it. We assumed the points probably needed cleaning, and since we were pressed for time we just pushed it out of the way.
Later that week a thought occurred to me. I went back out there and actually put a stick in the tank. When the tractor was refurbished they had put about a 3/4" standpipe in the tank. You guessed it--the gas in the tank was only 1/2" deep! DUH!!
I poured in some more gas and she fired right up!

This pic was a bandaid fix to get tractor back to pole barn.
The paper filter blocked the fuel flow, so fuel line bypassed my 12v solenoid and filter
I have 12v solenoids on

Many tractors, both terramites came from factory with solenoids.
Solenoids prevent memory loss and stop gas leaking on the floor or running out of gas when start tractor.

All's well that ends well. That is a nice shed . How many cubs do you have now? You sure have a knack for finding more cubs. I guess we could call you a cub scout! And the Mrs. can be the den mother.

Thats funny, I had a very good friend thats now deceased that ran a garage, one time he put a fuel pump on a customers station wagon, wouldnt crank , went to parts house to swap it out for another pump , put second one on and still no start. He calls parts house fussing about second one no good and goes and gets third fuel pump, gets to his shop and puts it on the station wagon and still wont start and calls parts house again fussing, a man from parts house delivers the fourth mechanical fuel pump and before my mechanic friend installs it he asked have you checked to see if the old car has gas in it? Haha, this is a true story, vehicle was just out of gas and my old friend was telling the parts house that they were pedaling cheap Chinese or Mexican parts.

What's really annoying is when you forget to turn on the gas on a hand start tractor. You crank or spin until the sweat drips off the end of your nose, the motor catches-AHA! All is well, big smile then it dies just before you can get to the gas shutoff..........grrrrrrrrrrrrr! Not that I've ever had that happen....unc

don't feel bad I pulled on a pressure washer for a couple of minutes , this thing always starts , maybe I should see if its got gas , nope empty GOOD GRIEF

I did the opposite. Forgot to close the gas tank valve. Checked the oil prior to next use and it looked thin. Drained over 2 gallons out of the oil pan.

Some days just dont go well.

Put a gallon of gas in the B, got it pointed for the end of the driveway, and it died.
Said turn the gas on, dip**** as I learned I can reach under the tank to the shutoff from the platform.

Replaced the coil last week, a wonder it even ran, the coil wire socket was 100% rusted.
