John Deere R running wide open

I just bought a 51 R and when we pulled it out of the barn to start it ,it would just run wide open. We checked the linkage and it was all moving as it should. We also took off the cover where the throttle linkage goes in to and that all seemed to be moving as it should as well. I was wondering if it was sucking air some where causing this , cause it hasn't ran in a few years.

(quoted from post at 15:57:37 08/22/21) i am thinking the rack in the injection pump is stuck.

The O.P. doesn't mention have they got it stopped, if it stopped with the throttle lever the "rack" isn't stuck.

If they had to shut the fuel off or clap a board over the air inlet to stop it that would be a different matter.

If it stopped in the normal matter (using the throttle lever) I would suspect it has "thrown" it's governor weights (12).

Otherwise, something could have come disconnected in the complicated linkage from the governor to the "rack".
