Adjusted all the valves. Most were only a bit off but the. Cylinder with 5 psi compression took alot of adjustment. Now have 150,150,130,150. Tractor still runs like crap. Cleaned carb, tinkered with timing, adjusted carb, nothing helps. Smokes like it's running rich, and pops like small back firing when you rev it up. Previous owner installed electronic ignition, but left metal core plug wires. I've read that is wrong...... Will it affect it that much??

Did you check the push rod(s) that required a lot of adjustment to see if it was bent? One needing a lot of adjustment with the others about right, can be a sign it is bent. If any are bent, they should be replaced as they will keep bending.

Electronic ignition doesn't like true wire plug wires and will burn out due t having them so good chance if you switch it back to points it will run better

A bent pushrod will be shorter, not longer. So your adjustment was to loosen the adjuster. The opposite of a bent Push rod. Jim

Correct, my error, I forgot his original issue of low compression and was thinking it was loose.

If it still has the stock coil, the wire wires will work. Only with the flame thrower coils are resistor wires required, so I hear. But wire wires will not make it run bad, they are hard on the electronic unit.

Rapid, rhythmic popping back through the intake, worse under load or acceleration is usually caused by an exhaust valve not fully opening, a flat cam. Did you watch the valves opening while the cover was off?

It can also be cross firing, a carbon tracked distributor cap, really bad plug wire insulation between to wires touching each other, usually worse when damp.
