John Deere 620 and B

Hello!! I would appreciate your advice.

I have two old tractors that I'd like to put to work. We have folks who Hay about 200 acres of our farmland. I'd like to use my 620 to brush hog the places they can't get to, to keep the shrubs etc. down.

1)What size, type etc. Brush Hog will work with a 620? How well with the 620 handle the brush hog.

2) Will my B handle a small brush hog? How about a (PTO powered)pull behind mower? I would use the B for smaller areas that the 620 can't get into.
Thanks,
PAul

With Hp in the mid 50s, it will easily handle a 6 footer in pretty heavy cutting and brush once cleared the next size wider could
work, or speed increase is OK.
the B is easily capable of spinning a finish mower of 5 feet. Leave the brush to the 620.
In 1st gear cutting 1/2 wide cuts may be needed. Jim

Hello hep1 welcome to YT! I understand wanting to utilize both tractors, but here is my observation. There is a very
minimal physical size difference between your two tractors. Assuming the 620 has a 3 point and this is the most likely way
you will mount the bush hog on it, you can then back it in small spaces like small areas between trees. You then have
basically no areas to utilize the B with a pull behind machine. The places you cannot get to with the 620 will be more
suited to a riding mover if you are going to that level of detail. Save yourself the added maintenance and just get the one
bush hog for the 620. Use your B to pull wagons to maintain trees around the edge of the fields. Or just joy ride it around
the hay fields after they are cut to check property conditions.

If the 620 has an independent PTO, use that tractor. If you use the B, make sure you have an over-running clutch on the PTO, so the mower cannot back-drive the tractor transmission when you disengage the tractor clutch.

I have a Woods 72 inch Brush bull on a 630. In heavy brome grass here in northwest Iowa I would not want anything wider but in lighter grass the 630 has plenty of power.

I've used my late A one a 5 foot Woods. Power is adequate but in standing hay the blade rotation sort of matched the power strokes of the tractor. It causes the mower
to jump a lot. One time it bounced the drawbar pin out. Luckily it was in a turn and I got it stopped before the driveline was damaged. The E4 works a lot better and
has an independent PTO.
