Help! My 2440 tractor warning lights do not flash. all wiring seems to be correct. The flasher came form an auto parts store. Will flash sometimes but not for long. Do I need to buy an original one from Deere dealer?

What number flasher did you get from the auto parts store? Are the lights incandescent or have they been changed to LED?

You need a 'non load sensitive' flasher.

It does not care how many lamps, or what kind of lamps. It flashes the same rate regardless of load.

There are electronic and electro-mechanical flashers.

The electronic are longer lasting, but are polarity sensitive.

Electro-mechanical have contacts that wear over time if it is used for long periods with substantial
load.

I rewired my JD 2520 this past spring. I put in a new little old fashioned round automotive flasher unit from the auto supply
store. It works fine with one old style lamp. I noticed the terminals were marked in and out. I don't remember seeing that.
The flasher in my AC 175 was sporadic, so I replaced that too, with the same part. This tractor has two OEM style lamps, as I
assume your 2440 does, and the flasher works fine with them also.

Bought LF12 and LL552. neither one worked any better. All lights are incandescent. Four on the canopy and two on the fenders. They all light when switch is on W but do not flash.

The flasher gets very hot with warning lights lit but normally no flash. Every once in a while they flash slowly and then quit flashing.

Either one should flash six lights. I would suspect a short somewhere, perhaps even right in a socket. Are the lights shining brightly or dim?

They are nice and bright.

Some history might help. The questions may not make sense to you, but remember we can see it, so have to ask things to replace the missing visual.

In the past, were they working and quit, so you replaced the flasher? Or did you recently get the tractor and they weren't working, so you are trying to fix them? You say the wiring seems to be correct. Are you comparing it to the wiring diagram or just how it appears to you. Do you have the right John Deere Technical (service) Manual (for the wiring diagrams) and the Operator's manual for it? There are two different serial number ranges for the manuals. I know some models (and expect maybe the 2440 as well) could be re-wired so the warning lights were steady burning not flashing due to local regulations, another reason for the questions of, did they work in the past and do you have the manuals (so you can check for that modification).

Working on this for a friend. replacing radiator and he asked if I could fix flashers. Already had automotive type flasher installed. They only flash for several minutes if at all. Compared wiring to service manual diagram specific for this tractor. All colors match and correspond with proper location. This is driving me crazy. The only difference is the automotive type flasher. I ordered OEM from J.D. but my expectations are not high. Do not believe it was modified.

You likely checked this. The automobile flashers plug in to the socket ok, but is the flasher getting power on its X terminal? I have been trying to find a picture of the JD flasher with the terminals identified on the chanced they are reversed, doesn't seem they would do that. Does this tractor have signal lights or just flashing warning lights? If it has signals there could be a problem in the signal switch.

Reversed the wires just in case. No difference. No turn signal switch on this tractor. Have power from W terminal on switch to flasher and out of flasher to lights. They light but do not flash.

Found a copy of a 2440 Operator's manual and the note about the rewire for steady burning lights. Likely no help in your case but here it is for the record. I don't have a service manual so can't see the functions of the wires, or just where they are in the scheme of things, that they swap around. It will be interesting if the JD flasher works.
