1980 JD 2240 was mowing hay with it and it suddenly lost all hydraulics no PTO No lift from SCV no power steering!! Any ideas where to begin other than changing the filter thats already been done!! Thanks for any and all help on this issue

Pull screen, big plug by filter hsg. 1/2 drive breaker, will have to catch oil. Screen in there, have to make hook to pull. Guessing plugged up.

(quoted from post at 23:25:24 08/10/21) Hydraulic Pump coupler on the front
crankshaft broke/failed?

The PTO would still function .
The problem is somewhere is the transmissions low pressure hydraulic system .
Broken steel lines are a favourite .

Welcome yo YT
Ditto what b&d stated. Which type pto does your tractor have(IPTO or dual stage clutch)?

Another possibility is pto input shaft isn't turning when engine crankshaft turns which would mean trans pump lost it's ability to pump oil

I believe its the IPTO. But not sure really sure I just bought this tractor a week ago

Almost 30 yes ago brother had a 2355,
sudden loss of hydraulics.
Transmission pump (crescent pump) had
broken crescent gear.
Not a deere guy, this was only JD I have
ever worked on.
If irc there is a small tank between trans
pump and front pump, the test was to pull
a plug and manually fill the tank, this
would give a short burst of functioning
hydraulic when first restarting.

Independent PTO has a Pull knob between the shift levers to engage it (no need to use the engine clutch) and the Continuous Running PTO uses a lever on the left side of the transmission (near your left heel) and you have to use the engine clutch to engage it.

Ok it has the IPTO

1st thing I recommend is checking/cleaning suction screen & changing hyd filter(part# AR75603). Is hyd fluid at full mark on dipstick by right heel when sitting in seat. Check hyd oil with engine at idle speed. If that doesn't solve the problem then remove cowling gearshift levers protrude through & check hyd pressure on test port on gearshift cover. Pressure should be around 155 psi.
