Ignition buzzer

Have a friend who never turns off his ignition on his Ferguson TO30. Always calls me when it won't start... Anyways, is there an easy way to add a buzzer that buzzes when the key is on? It's still 6v. I figure he probably won't hear it over the engine, so will only notice it once the engine dies.

Thanks.

Good point. Maybe turns gas off. Never really thought about it, but it is always in the on position when I go look. Maybe he leaves it there after it won't start.

(quoted from post at 15:43:26 08/06/21) I have the same problem. Be interesting to see the ideas
ow oil pressure switch (as would be on many cars, trucks & some tractors) installed with sw providing ground when oil pressure drops, sw to buzzer and other end of buzzer to IGN sw. When pressure drops & IGN still on, BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I might be tempted to block his phone number ..... just kidding but a guy wonders if anything would work.

A low oil pressure switch is about the only option, even that will take some plumbing and wiring.

A good possibility it might false alarm at low idle when hot, but then it might save the engine.

I had the same problem with the old forklift at work. They would run it out of gas or couldn't figure out the choke, get off leave the ignition on. I put a strobe light on, it needed that anyway. But it solved the key left on problem!

No one asked if it was a diesel and many older diesels shut off with the throttle or pull cable. I would estimate over half of the 4 & 560 diesels IH tractors were left with the key on. Only thing fired up was the fuel gauge so the battery would last months if any good.

Later tractors had some red lights that would flash on if they worked so not as many of them were left with switch on.

surplus center sells an oil pressure alert with a light and buzzer that works with any electric pressure guage sender unit.install it in the dash somewhere, get a ford 80's or so oil pressure sender, install it in the oil galley in a 1/8 inch predrilled and plugged outlet on the side of the block near or in the outlet where the current sender is. It can be put in with a t from napa or in its own outlet. run a hot wire from the key to the buzzer unit, then ground it to the ford sender. When the oil pressure drops the buzzer will tell him to turn the key off. The only downside is having to listen to the thing buzz while you are starting the tractor until it gets up oil pressure , but usually only takes small numbers to turn it off. I have one on two tractors now with more to install as time allows.

It always ends well for me. Insists on some green each time. He's not really handy, so knows if I don't work on it, it'll sit.

I worked on a 8n for a guy and his had an idiot light on the dash. Turned out that one of his problems was the ignition switch itself, turn the key on and the light came on but it wouldn't stay on and the tractor wouldn't stay running. I liked the idea so much I put one on mine too. Built in test light for those junky switches and reminds you if the key is on.

Like the exciter wire or idiot like on the alternator, you can but a buzzer on that circuit too. Like already mentioned a low oil pressure switch would work too. The alternator or low oil pressure sender could also run an hour meter too, that way it's not counting hours unless the engine is running.

Incidentally on older carburetor autos, both of those mentioned above could also run an electric choke. The benefit in doing it that way would be that the choke would not keep heating up if the engine died or the key was left on.
