6 Volt Battery

It is getting harder and harder to find a 6 volt battery. Probably won't be long when they are no longer manufactured and you will be forced to convert.

I bought Jubilee and Farmall C that were converted to 12v.
Not everyone will agree with me, but the best thing I did was to replace starter with a 12v one on Jubilee and couldn't find a 12v stater for Farmall. So I use an old lawn mower battery in Farmall.
Before I converted to 12v starter, I would shear off starter drives I purchased form YT. The final straw was shearing off a starter tooth on Jubilee flywheel.

Some may not have my problem. Both my engines were rebuilt and have good compression.
Very happy having an alternator too.
NO regrets buying a 12v starter from YT. I probably spent more on starter drives than I paid for starter.

At the first sign of troublr,I convert to 12 volt with one wire alternator.Easier starting, ability to run 12v lights and other avvessorys.I have done probably a dozen such conversions.Never had a breath of trouble, and no regrets.

I can find 6 volt batteries pretty easily and I don't seem to have all the problems that most complain about the old 6 volt systems. I have several old tractors on 6 volt

I haven't had to buy a six volt battery lately but don't anticipate any problems getting one locally. I've never had a problem running 12 volts through a six volt starter on the converted units either. The Cockshutt 50 has a bad ring gear but that was already causing problems before we converted it to 12 volts. Starter works fine (and fast) once it engages.

Our local L&M has a good stock of 6 volt batteries, and I have one in our Farmall C for at lest 8 years. I expect it to play out soon, but it still starts just fine.

Bomgaars has them. They are a regional chain headquartered in Sioux City, Iowa. They are somewhat comparable to Fleet Farm. In this area at least two of them have taken over vacated Wal Marts when Wal Marts upgraded to bigger stores with groceries.

I needed a 6 volt battery for my 1953 Willys CJ3B Jeep and I was able to chose from several CCA choices at the Batteries Plus franchise store. They have been very good for several other vehicles also.

No danger whatsoever of 6 volt batteries going away. Question is why in the world anyone would keep any system on 6 volt but some are hung up on using old ways I guess.
