Road trip mpg

I calculated 21.9 mpg for a 300 mile trip to deliver furniture to daughter with my '99 F250 diesel last week. But it's always done well on road trips - usually hovering around 20 mpg.

Do you have a chip in it? mine gets a lot better economy with the chip and have extra power with a turn of knob when needed.

Why are you checking MPG thought you weren't worried about how much fuel you used and how much it cost? Must of turned into one of those bitter old men you talk about.(LOL)

Is that after adjusting for shrinkage due to inadvertent use of a couple gallons as body wash ? I hope you no longer have essence of ethanol about you.

So he beat you by more than a mile to the gallon with a truck 21 years older I wouldnt call that bragging

TF.....my dad has kept a log book for as long as I can remember,in every vehicle, keeping up with mpg. He asked me to calculate it... ..or I would have never known,or cared. Have no idea the price per gallon. I got a new Ford tractor on the trip, how could I be bitter?!!? Lol

Not bragging just a fact. You would expect the diesel would do a little better than a gas engine of the same size. The 460 CI V8s that I had were lucky to get 9 miles a gallon so 15.3 looks like an improvement to me.

The 7.3 gasser will run circles around the old 7.3 power stroke. Its a bigger truck, heavier truck, more capable truck. people wonder why newer vehicles don't get better mileage, but they forget that they produce more power (a lot in some circumstances), get more work done with more weight, options, refinements, more safety features, better frames, axles, brakes etc.... Don't get me wrong, I like the older stuff too. I have a 98 QC 12V Cummins, and love it, not the most powerful rig but great power, economy and impeccable reliability, it can't be duplicated or replaced.

7.3 gasser (godzilla) 430 HP, 475 lb/ft (2020-present)
7.3 diesel ( powerstroke) 235 HP, 500 lb/ft (1999/2000)
6.8 gasser ( V10 ) 310HP, 425 lb/ft ( 99-04 F-series)
7.5 gasser ( 460 ci ) 275 hp, 400 lb/ft. (90's EFI)

Try raising that throttle plate up about 1/16 of an inch I did just that
and Gained about 30% HP And the mileage also went up. Dumbest thing I ever
did was to sell my 96 5 spd 12 Valve.
