Quick day trip

Tracy Brown texted me last week, said he had picked up a nice Ford 841. Yesterday I picked up my dad and we headed up there. Little over 300 miles round trip if we go from my house to Tracy's, add 150 round trip if I go get my dad....... But he sure enjoyed the trip. First tractor I've bought in a long time that drove on to the trailer! Hot day in Alabama and Mississippi, work truck AC doesn't work half the time, and my dad got chilly with his window down,so he kept it rolled up, I nearly burnt up!! I drank at least 12 bottles of water and a couple sodas. My dad drank one 20 oz Root beer on the way up and a sprite at lunch. We were gone from his house 9+ hours. On the way home I had to stop 3 times to let him out and walk off terrible leg cramps. Tried to get him to drink some water but he said he was fine. I'm betting he was nearly dehydrated. Saw a couple cubs for sale on the way back. No number on the sign.

Sounds like yall had a good time.
Your dad may need some potassium tablets.
I have to take 200 MG every day to prevent leg cramps and weakness.
Next time he is at the doc, tell him to have it checked.
The K tablets really helped me cause I sweat a bunch in hot weather.

My 2007 GMC 1500 has dual manual temperature controls. AC works better than in my Cadallic. For the same reason you were hot and dad wasn't is the best reason to get dual temp controls. Someone is always hot if they are in the sun and the other person is freezing. Even today not all new trucks have dual controls.

These are the best times in your life to spend time with your dad while he is still alive.

I sure your dad enjoyed the trip. Me and my dad used to love going to sales together. Its kind of nice getting one you dont have to work on to get it to move. Be careful, you might get spoiled! It looks pretty good.

Looks like a nice tractor. Sounds like a good day . Do you think you will do any haying this year ?

Like your dad, I try not to drink much when traveling.

A little dehydration discomfort is better than suffering with a full bladder and having to stop every 30 minutes!

You'll be there some day! LOL

JK-NY....I hope we get some hay done. Field is way over grown. But it's low laying near a creek. Takes a week to dry out good.... Then a few days to cut,dry and bale. Ain't managed to get more than 2 dry days in a row for 2 months.

Grandpa, were those Cubs on Hwy 45 in MS? If so, they have been there quite a while which made me think they may be over a little overpriced. Next time I am by there, I will check on them for you if you want.

If your dad is on blood thinner perscription, they will make you feel cooler. Just like mixing antifreeze with water, it makes water "wetter" and thus can carry and radiate more heat.
Thinners sort of do the same.

A banana (potassium rich source) once a day will help prevent leg cramps.

When hot and steamy, drink water or gatorade.
Anything else is not as good as those to hydrate.

Many times when driving around I have seen something I would like to buy. Sometimes for sale, many times something I could see sitting in the tall weeds, etc. If no phone numbers on sign and nobody home, or it looks like you should not cold call on the house, I make note of the address.

Then mail a postcard inquiry with my phone number or email address asking for price or if it might be for sale. I also add a note as to how I know what they might have for sale or just saw while driving by. And how I got the address info.
Otherwise they might get paranoid and not respond at all.

Good luck. I did some of my hay but have been renting some of my fields out last year and this year since I have had the cancer to deal with . We had about one month of rainy weather from late June to late July here which is when a lot of dry hay gets made here, I have a couple neighbors who have just gotten started on their hay as they didnt roll in June when we did have the weather. The fellow that cuts the parts of my hay I can no longer do and I both baled some on July 29 , before that I baled last on 6/30 ! He is finishing up on my fields today as we have actually had no rain since Monday. The quality is a bit lower than what I want in square bales at this point so I will do some second cutting and call it good.
