how to dyno 4020

From the M&W Gear chart, late diesel 4020 Power shift with 1000 RPM shaft, engine no load 2410 RPM for 1272 PTO, engine full load is 2200 for 1161 PTO, 95.8 HP. The late diesel 4020 synchro is engine no load 2380, PTO 1256. Full load 2200 engine, 1161 PTO, 94.9 HP.
If using the six spline shaft the no load speed should be about 610 PTO, and loaded down to 540 and reading taken there. The engine checked at 1900 RPM the PTO HP will be slightly less than the M&W Gear chart.

Pull the knob out then with the dyno, pull the rpm down to 620 and then drag it down the 540 pto speeds, read the HP at both pto speeds.

(quoted from post at 19:25:00 08/04/21) Do you pull knob out to over ride stop on throttle lever and give it full throttle to get true test on dyno?

Curious, wouldn't a "true test" be one that mimics operating conditions? You don't run the tractor in the field with the knob pulled out, do you?

Who cares if the tractor makes 216HP with the knob pulled out? You're never going to use it because the knob is pushed in and the tractor is only making oh let's say 92HP.

(quoted from post at 00:18:55 08/05/21) I made 115 at 540 rpm

I'll bet smoke coming out of muffler on a 4020 @ 115 HP resembled smoke from old freight train engine.

My limited experience watching tractors being dynoed yrs ago is the dyno operator can ""within limits"" show whatever HP they choose.

Nebraska test shows '69 4020 @ 95.93 HP/2200 rpm's

If you had 10 PTO dynometers and tested the same 1 tractor on all 10 dynos you'd likely get 10 different readings.

PTO Dynos are like oscilliscopes, both expert and novice alike can make it read what they want it to read.

For purposes of comparison they have a use but they're not a very good way to get a true measurment of actual horsepower.

It will blow an 8 inch flame out of the stack all day long
working it hard . Ive seen a 4020 not dyno at least 100

You cant figure out how to get 20 extra horsepower out of a
Diesel engine we arent talking about a pos kubota.

Yes you can make the dyno read higher if you keep upping the rpm while Cranking the dyno tighter thats not what I said
