Worst ever 5?

i ve never owned one, but in my area, the 1855/1955 tractors seem to have a pour repuation
the 310 motor was the issue, the rest of the tractor was very good,

i always heard if they keep the perkins from the 1850, and used in in the 1855 and turbo it for the 1955
oliver would have ganged a lot of new customers?
just what some old timers tell me!

In order, the 1250 four cylinder gas, the 1450 and the 1855 diesel. Here's a link to educate you on the 1250 and 1450.

The 1855 itself was a good tractor. It became the White 2-85 and 2-105, but those two had a 354 Perkins engine. The 1855 diesel used a 310 Waukesha with a turbo. That engine worked fine in the 1750 without a turbo, but needed to be beefed up to be turboed, but they weren't. If you find one today that's still running, it most likely has the updates and will run forever, but they needed to be updated with one piece wrist pin bushings, hardened rod bolts, a deeper oil pan for more capacity and an engine oil cooler. Some of those tractors blew up the first day in the field off the dealers lot. They cost Oliver a lot of market share by driving die hard Oliver guys to other brands. By the time they improved them with the Perkins engines and changed them to the White brand, customers were gone and never came back.

An Ollie and Lena joke about Oliver Twist just popped in to my mind, but I don't think I'd better tell it on here. LOL

2655. Same as the MM A4T-1600. Few of either survived to today and most were re powered. Fortunately for White they were built at a time when most farmers were not paying any attention to the 4 wheel drive market so all the sins were overlooked when the 4-150 and 4-180 hit the market.

Doesn't take 5. Only two. The 310 turbo engine in the 1855/1955 were probably the worst two tractors Oliver ever made. The tractor was fine. the engine wasn't.

Too bad White was not capable of taking its experimental 400 cu in engine to production that was originally intended for the CVT tractors. Somebody was saying that MF was responsible for not making the Perkins available for the Oliver 55 series?
